Just wanted to add another encouraging story to the list! I also have a UU and was diagnosed by MRI during my first pregnancy 5 years ago. My son was born at 38 weeks via c-section due to being 'sunny side up' and is a perfectly healthy almost 5yr old! It took us just shy of 3yrs to concieve our second child and I am currently 28 weeks pregnant. For 2years we really actively tried - clomid, femera, etc and it was then that I found out I have one two ovaries but just one fallopian tube. I also found out during this pregnancy that I have just one kidney. I go for ultrasounds with the high risk group every 4 week to check the length of my cervix and babies growth and so far everything looks great and am scheduled for a repeat c-section at 39wks. Please don't be deterred by having a UU. It is totally possible to concieve and birth a healthy child - or children! It may take time to concieve but that doesn't mean it can't happen. We had pretty much given up by 3yrs of ttc, and had even gotten our foster care license, when I found out I was pregnant. Best of luck to you!

Hi all,
My wife has a unicorn uterus, and we have been trying for 3 years. We're trying to stay as positive as possible, but I'm sure you can understand that it's not the easiest thing to do. It's great to read so many positive success stories. I will pray for all those who are trying to conceive, and I hope that you will do the same.

Thanks.

I found out i had a unicornuate womb when i had my daughter by c section. My womb has the deformity on the left side and i only have one fallopian tube. I had tests to check my kidneys - i have 2 and they both function perfectly. I had a c section a week before she was due because she was breech. Apart from a bit of light spotting in the 2nd month and a little water loss in the eighth month my pregnancy went well.

I have been unable to get pregnant since, but i have not investigated whether this is due to the womb or secondary infertility due to pcos.

I also have a unicornuate uterus- having been diagnosed after trying to get pregnant for about 2 years. It took another 6 rounds of IVF and 4 more years but I did it! My daughter was born by C section as she was breach at 36 weeks- a healthy 6lb 11oz. Never give up!!

I too have a UU. I was not aware of this problem until I had my daughter. I had miscarried twins @ 11 weeks before but the dr's and I never thought anything of it just that the babies were not healthy and did not survive. It took almost 2 years after I miscarried to get pregnant with my daughter. My pregnancy was actually quit blissful except for the fact that she was breach and in a cheerleader stance with her head in the center of my rib cage :-) The dr's had me coming in every week for my first trimester to make sure everything was ok. After we determined everything was fine I went in for monthly visits and never had any idea that I had a UU. My water broke at exactly 39 weeks to the day. I never had any contractions warning me only symptom was that I felt like c**p that day, almost called in sick to my job I only had had for 2 days. Glad I went as we live 45 miles from the closest hospital and I would ahve been home alone when my water broke. I just happened to be at lunch with my hubby when it broke. Got to the ER and because I was not dialating but having contractions they gave me my epidural and left me in my room until the dr's could get to me 6 hours later even then I was only dialated to 2. They gave me a c-section and discovered my UU. My daughter is now 9months and healthy & beautiful and developing fast!
To everyone TTC keep your heads up when its your time you will conceive!!! Until then good luck to you all!!!!!!!!!! :-)

hi i found out i had a uu and only one kidney when i was 21, I am now 35 with two healthy boys who are 11 and 5 :-D both pregnancys were fine had c-sec on both but on my second i had a split symphasis which was very painful i think this was a result of on my first pregnancy i went up to 9cm dilated then went back down to 5cm and he was pushing down on my pelvic bone at an angle so i had an emergency c-sec :-( . I have only just looked this up on here and i am amazed to find that having a uu and one kidney is a common result of each other.

Reading all your posts has been very helpful. I was just diagnosed with a unicorn uterus with a right horn. the horn is communicating so they will have to remove it before I can start trying to get pregnant because a pregnancy in the horn would be detrimental to both the baby and myself. I find it extremely interesting that alot of people with UU have one kidney because I actually have FOUR!! That's the reason I discovered the UU because my urologist told me that I will have trouble getting pregnant because of my kidneys.
I'm feeling pretty low since I was diagnosed. My chances of carrying a baby to term have been lowered due to my kidneys and now my uterus. And add to all that the fact that I'm only 5 feet tall so I don't think there's going to be alot of room for a baby to grow. I'm trying to stay optimistic until I find out when I'm having my surgery but alot of that optimism is just a show for my husband.

I too have a UU. I was diagnosed 3 years ago after having issues getting pregnant. I ended up having a rudimentary horn so i had surgery to have it removed. I am now almost 26weeks pregnant and my cervix has started shortening. I am on strict bedrest. Has anyone else with a UU has shortening cervix?? How long did you make it? thanks

I have a unicornuate and got pregnantvia IUI with my 1st - had monitoring of cervical length from 14 weeks and found to be very short at 20 weeks and had cerclage placed - was on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy and medication for contraxtion (terbutaline) since my uterus was irritable and always contracting. Delivered healthy baby girl at 37 weeks via csection.
now trying for #2 and getting iui tomorrow but not sure if we should proceed since I have 5 large follicles and am afraid that if I have multiples I may not have a good outxcome with my pregnancy since I had so much trouble even carrying one to term.

Anyone else have multiples with unicornuate successfully or unsuccessfully - it would be great to hear your experieince?
We would not consider reductions - so it is scary for us.

It is great to hear all your stories. I also have UU but have a very different story again. I only just found out about having a UU when i had an ectopic pregnancy recently. I have a 16 month old boy. after all the info and stories i have read i am extremely grateful for my experience. We got pregnant first month trying, Mt son was 11pound 1 ounce ( no gestational diabetes, just big) and he was 10 days late! I never went into labor by myself but i was cm dialated from 36 weeks. I had a very difficult delivery but he was born naturally with assistance. He did sit very lopsided lol and it is only now that we know why! we are about to start trying again and hopefully we have the same outcome! although i wouldn't mind a nice 8 pound girl this time! I really wish you all the best of luck and hope my story brings you some hope of happy healthy babies despite having UU.

Long story short: My now 4y old was born at 35 weeks. The dr's had a very difficult time getting her out (scheduled c-section) as I had little to no fluid and they had not realized I had a unicornuate uterus. I knew I had one kidney and was born that way but never thought to have additional tests to disover any more abnormalities. In any respect. I never missed a menstrual cycle and got pregnant on my own with out medical intervention. I charted and within 1 month my husband and I concived. I do have to say that my daughter was breech and due to the small uterus she did have some difficulties with her airway and needed nasal stents put in at 4m. She also had hip displasia and her toes on her left foot were curled over due to the lack of room and her feet overlapping in my cervix. Uou would never know now as she is a happy, perfect 4y old! With no lasting damage- smarter than a whip and as beautiful as ever. The second time around I was worried that it would take longer to concieve and that my next child would have silimar difficulties (I knew that I would not make it to full term) but only after two months of charting we concived again on our own. Our son just had his first birthday. The second pregnancy I did see a high risk obgyn who specialized in unterine abnormalities. I was seen weekly and at 30 weeks was put on bed rest. I made it to 37 weeks. My son was a healthy 7.5 ounce boy who spent no time in the NICU.

I am on my 4th pregnancy in 3 years, all of the others have ended in miscarriage, I had my first ultrasound this past wednesday, and the doctor said either I'm not as far along as expected or the baby has stopped growing and I will miscarry again. he also said I have a unicornuate uterus, and everything I've seen on here shows that everyone has either had trouble conceiving, or went into pre-term labor. has anyone had experiences with repeated miscarriages, and does anyone know the success rate with so many miscarriages. there are other factors involved, I have PCOS and my progesterone level is low, but i am receiving injections for it. I am currently having some bleeding but idk if it is miscarriage or due to something else, it comes and goes, and is never heavy, has been going on for about a week. I told my doc about it and he said there wasn't much that can be done, but that the justational sack is attached well, and looks like I am about 5 weeks along. (lmp was 3/9/10 but with pcos it isn't uncommon for me to skip a period and still ovulate, and pregnancy test at hospital for something else on 4/11 was negative) just down and worried about everything, I always just thought the problem was PCOS, but now there is this to worry about too, any advice, or has anyone else had a similar experience?

thought i would share my story i have UNICORNUATE UTERUS this was discovered during a hsg for fertility testing as i had trouble conceiving i also had a scan to see if i had both kidneys as often if you have unicornuate uterus your kidney may be missing ,i had both but my left kidney is to the right and in my pelvis !! but apparently functions normally , i fell pregnant naturally after about 8 years of trying but was very ill and after i fainted and noticed a very very small amount of brown discharge attended a&e were i was scanned and told baby had died about 2 weeks earlier and i had what was called a silent miscarriage (no symptoms) this was at 11 weeks pregnant and i had to have a d&c .
i then tried for another 3 years had 9 months on fertility drugs and was waiting to start ivf when i conceived agin had a scan at 12 wks 4 days told baby was healthy and growing well then at 13 wks 3 days had a massive bleed was told at a&e that i was dilated and was miscarrying was absolutley devastated and was told my options were to go home and let nature take its course or have a d&c i chose a d&c as the thought of going home and letting it happen was awful ,turns out they couldnt fit me into theatre and advised i take misprostral to speed things up i was given 4 tablets in 4 hours and things were not progressing as dr would like when i was re examine was told cervix had closed btu that it would probably dilate again and that they had tried their best and i should go home "and flush the toilet if i felt it come away " i was distraught at this thought and my partner told the dr we would not be leaving to which the dr said fine i will take you for a sacn and show you that the baby will have broken down and you will not pass any thing recognizable ,we went for our scan to be shown a screen with our baby still very much alive and waving its arm .we were then told you will probably miscarry in the next 24 hours due to the tablets ,,the next morning we were seen by a professor who said he hadnt come across a case were this had ended happily and that we should go home and pray for a miracle as the next 72 hours were crucial and that i should stay off my feet i did as was told and thankfully my pregnancy continued were found out at 16 weeks it was boy ,the pregnancy wasnt smooth as we had regular scan as misprostral can cause nerve damage and limbs to not develop but we were very lucky as our son developed well at 37 weeks i was induced as i had pre eclampsia and after a 36hour labour he was delivered with rotational forceps and episiotomy and weighed 6Lbs 7oz and hopefully no nerve damage will come to light as he gets older he is a healthy happy little boy who doesnt know what a miracle he is just wanted to share my story as i know finding info on UNICORNUATE UTERUS can be difficult i hope this helps someone as i never thought i would be a mum and im now a very very happy one good luck xx
