Hi, I need some advise. I have a small lump, about the size of a 5p coin on only one leg. It is at the upper inner part of my leg near my groin, just to the side of my crease where my leg meets my groin.
I Have had this for about 4 MONTHS and am a bit worried. I cant go to the doctor for family reasons, (unless I absolutly had to but I need to change doctors).
The lump itself is slightly red and tender, also it looks alot darker compared to the rest of my skin.
Does anybody have any idea what it is???
( I am perticulary worried that it may be herpes)
(also I am 18 and fairly healthy)

This lump sounds as too large to be related to herpes, however it very easily could be swollen lymph node. Lymph nodes are important for your immune system – when there is some kind of an infection in your body, lymph nodes act as “collectors” for bacteria or viruses preventing them to spread further in your body. Lymph nodes that most often get enlarged are the ones in the throat and in groins. And since they are red and sensitive to touch its very likely some infection caused that. It won’t go away until you find out what infection exactly caused this and get proper treatment.
Thanks for the reply, but what sort of infection could it be? I have had it for a long time and the body hasn't cleared it up by itself. Due to the area could it be an STD? Or just any sort of infection?
I have some penacillian at home, if its a bacterial infection do you think it will clear it up? Or does it not work on certain bacteria?

Infection easily could be caused by a virus in which case antibiotic wouldn’t help at all. And long infections similar to this or, like you thought of yourself – STDs, can last for months with little symptoms. I know how things look like when you can’t just walk to the doctors… How long until you get a new GP?
If it wasn’t penicillin maybe you could try the antibiotic, but it’s far too risky because of the side effects. If it is viral infection, side effects could be quite strong. And how would me or you guess the right dosage without knowing exactly. Don’t do it, you would only build resistance to penicillin so a number of antibiotics would be a lot less effective. Maybe calling a doctor’s office to find out what are your options? There must be some way to see a doctor other than your old one.

Well I guess the only option is seeing a doctor, it may take just little over a month to change but I surpose I better get it done.
Thanks for the advise, it really did help.
