so for the past few weeks I've been having a constant pain in my upper abdomen, it feels like its right below my ribs so to speak. I went to the doctor and had a ton of tests, my blood work was completely normal and because the pain was so high they gave me a "GI cocktail", and decided to give me a trial on prevacid. The pain has gone away but the nausea has remained. It's constant. My upper abdomen is tender as well when you press on it (even gently). There's also a pressure when I suck my stomach in even slightly.. I've also been urinating alot, but that could be due to me drinking alot more water lately. I'm just not sure. Anyone have any ideas what it could be or maybe have experienced the same thing?

This is really weird I have almost the same thing. My stomach right below my ribs is really bloated it is really tender and I am almost always having nausea. It is the weirdest thing ever and it has been getting worse. I am also having to go to the restroom a lot more but it hits me like a ton of bricks and sometimes its hard to make it to the restroom. I am 23 yrs old and I am getting confused with all these weird things going on with my body. I have also been really late everymonth on my periods but they still come so for a while i thought I might be pregnant because I also have the constent breast tenderness. I hate this not knowing whats wrong with me it sucks. I am going to the doctor tomorrow I hope they can find whats wrong I am also always fatigued. I also have had small amounts of blood in my stool. I really am getting tired of this. :-(

Hey Girls,
Im curious if you guys ever determined what was the cause of your symptoms... because oddly enough, I'm around the same age, 23... and experiencing very similiar symptoms. I was out with my girlfriends tonight at dinner, and started drinking a martini... and all of a sudden started experiencing very intense upper abdominal pain on my right side... Right under my rib cage all the way to my chest.. I started feeling really nauseus, the pain was so severe I had to leave dinner early and head home. I've looked up some of my symptoms... and it seems as though, abdominal pain on the right side in that location can be associated with liver/gallbladder issues... and often gallstones can be to blame... By no means am I a doctor, but this pain was so intense, I'm a bit hesistant to have a drink... I'm curious if you guys ever figured out why you were having these pains... also you mentioned frequently being late for your period... I also have been experiencing this, as well as feeling more fatigued than usual as well.. I'm hoping you ladies, or someone out there may have more insight than I to lend to this issue... it started happening about 3 weeks ago, usually when I drink.. I'm wondering if alcohol could be irritating a pre-existing condition that going on that I may be unaware of... I'm more than happy to hear anyones experience or knowledge regarding this... Thanks!

I would love to find out what this is because I have the EXACT same symptoms and I thought maybe I was pregnant because my period was late and brief which is so strange since I'm on the pill and have never had a late period but needless to say I wasn't pregnant but the symptoms kept going. Nauseous, constant stomach aches, tenderness and bloating under my ribs, it's just horrible. It's hurting my everyday life and I can't handle it. I feel like throwing up constantly but never do. I haven't been to a special doctor for any gastric problems but I need answers!

Oh great...I'm 23 too! And I'm having the SAME exact problem. But the only thing that I can add is that I was tested positive for Chlamydia which is a bacterial infection inside the uterus. As silly as it may sound, I actually got it from my husband giving me oral sex early in the morning before brushing his teeth, who the heck would've thought?!

Well, I got treated and I'm all cleared up, thank God! Now my abdomen is so tender to the touch, and I have been peeing a lot more often than not and sometimes when I go pee, I feel like I have to go again...Grr...I'm going to the docs tonight at 6:30 [east coast time] so if I find out anything, I'll be sure to post it up for you ladies :-)

P.S. I'm 3 and a half weeks late for my period and I've had 2 pregnancy tests and there's just no way that its possible... but if I were you guys, go and get checked out for STD's and STI's. especially chlamydia because you can have it for years and not even know it! They should make it mandatory and I dont know why they havent.

I'm 20 as well, and the same problem! It started while I was in the hospital for mono at the begining of may so at first I assumed it was that, but then when the mono cleared up and I was still having this abdominal tenderness I figured something else was wrong. I just went for a cat scan today with contrast, so i'll see about the results in several days and will definetly update you if I find anything out. I was afriad I was pregnant as well, and when I finaly did get my period late (which i have never experienced since I started getting it) it lasted only half the normal time. I don't know how this has been affecting you, but I really haven't been able to eat much because of the pain and unfortunetly have lost a good deal of weight, so hopefully they'll figure out what's causing this so I can put it back on. Has anyone else had significant weight loss from this?

I am the above poster. I just wanted to add (in regards to the comments about alcohol above) that because of my mono they did a liver enzyme test to make sure my liver wasn't swollen (as they assumed the pain was on acount of that) but it came back completely normal even though my pain is also strongest of the right upper side. Its possible however, that alcohol could be making your pain worse because it is often a strong stomic irritant. just a thought

I have the same symptoms and have been diagnosed with Gastritis, its an inflammation of the stomach lining. Spices, alcohol, onions and other stuff can cause a flare up. The classic symptoms are nausea and pain. Acid reducing medications such as Zantac (ranitidine) and OTC such as Gaviscon, Pepto-Bismal etc can help.

An Endoscopy proved the diagnosis.

I use Wind-eze (Like WindX), Gaviscon, Zantac and Domperidone - these mostly help.

I am 27 now...and about 8 months ago had the exact same symptoms...checked with my dr...and what i was having were gallbladder attacks. Worse pain I've ever felt. I had gallstones and ended up having my gallbladder removed when I was 27 weeks pregnant.

Gallbladder attacks will never get better....most of the time they will start to get more intense and happen more often and last longer. They are spurred on by eating fatty food and, yes I believe that alcohol will also trigger them to happen.

check with your dr.

Hope that helps

Gall bladder. i had mine out too...nausea pain, very sensative... however those symptoms with bloating of the stomach and messed up periods can be VERY dangerous and indicate ovarian cysts or worse problems. here is my advice to all of you, GO TO A DOCTOR!! why on earth would you sit in pain and nausea and not see a doctor!? granted, my docs took months to diagnose my gallbladder, but i went when the symptoms presisted for an entire week without letting off. and it takes a while to diagnose bc its very expensive to have the gallbladder test and then the surgery, so they avoid it. if necessary

Hi, I don't normally post on these sites but im getting a little desperate. I'm 16 years old and am having similar symptoms as of 4 days ago. The first two days consisted of feeling as if my stomach or large intestine were burning and nausea. I also have little to no appetite and stomach cramps. The thing that annoys me is at times it feels like my stomach and other times it feels lower, like below my navel. sometimes i even get pains in my back. as of today (4th day) the burning has almost dissapeared but i feel very bloated and my stomach hurts when you press on it. i ate a bowel of soup earlier and i got unreasonably full. I went to see my pediatrition yesterday and she said that my urine sample had microscopic blood in it and they would send it to a lab. i still have not received results yet but i highly doubt this has anything to do with a urinary tract infection. She suggested that i go get a sonogram at the gynocologist to rule out the ovaries but I'm not sure if anything in gynocology is related to this kind of problem. I do get ovarian cysts and have never felt anything like this before. The doctor mentioned gastritis but she didnt perscribe me anything and said it would go away on its own. I dont know how long it takes to go away or if i should see a gastroenterologist, or if i even have gastritis. I don't really know what to do at this point. has anyone heard of anything like this?

Wow this is crazy, I am 21 years old and just went through severe tonsillitis (lasted over a month) all of a sudden I am experiencing a lot of pressure in my upper abdomen. Just inbetween my rib cage right where the upper abs meet. It is not in the location of my gall bladder or liver but all the symptoms you ladies are experiencing are very similar to mine, but it is not severe pain. I hate going to the doctor as I like to take as little medication as possible and I have in the past had the experience of being diagnosed incorrectly for 6 years getting steroid medications for something as simple as cat allergies. Sorry I am going off on a tangent... if there is anything that you could assist me with I will be very greatful! Thank you!

I am 34 years old. In February of this year right around the time of my period I was awaken out of my sleep with painful abdominal pain. I drank some psyllium husk and the pain went away after a good bowel movement. In March around the time of my period again, I awaken out of my sleep with the exact same pain. Again, I drank psyllim husk and the pain went away. In April around the time of my period the pain came back and it hasn't went away since and it is now the end of May. I went to the clinic because I have no insurance and I am receiving unemployment insurance benefits (for the person who asked why we won't go to the doctor) and the clinic doctor only said I have GERD but I don't believe GERD is suppose to be as painful as this. Like all of you my symptoms include abdominal tenderness and when I suck in my stomach or press down on it, it is very tender. I am really scared because I don't know what is going on and I don't have any insurance to go to the doctor to find out. I don'thave frequent urination or nasea but I do have the abdominal pain without ceasing. The clinic doctor prescribed me zantac, so I've been taken that plus pepto bismal, plus tylenol to try and dull the pain. The pain is something so sharp and constant I can't move for hours. So if someone goes to the doctor and gets a diagnosis please post it on here for the rest of us. Thanks.
