Hello-
I am a 25 year old girl. NO PRIOR SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP AT ALL. I had irregular periods for the last two months, but the cycle is back to normal again.Recently, I noticed I keep having regular spotting (thick mucus with blood) from my vagina atleast a few times a day,esp when I urinate.

I went to the doctor and they did not do any pap smear or inside testing since I am a virgin and they only did blood test and ultrasound results of my ovaries/uterus. They are normal.I could not possibly have a sexually transmitted disease.

So, what could be the cause for this? Could I be suffering from cervical cancer if I have never had sex/or could this be any kind of cancer? What should I do-the doctor advised I take birth control pills-but why would I do that when I am regular with my periods now?
It is very hard to say actually. I can’t understand why your doctor suggested birth control pills, I know they are usually prescribed when there is a hormonal imbalance such as Polycystic ovarian syndrome or if your periods are going crazy! He should have explained!

Can this spotting be related to specific part of the menstrual cycle, for example around ovulation or prior to your periods, or slightly after the period ended. I would suspect cervicitis that is not caused by sexually transmitted disease but I reckon they have suspected it as they ran some blood tests. These bacteria are usually found when there is an elevated number of white blood cells and then they run specific tests, at least this is what my gyn told me.

My sister suffers from endometriosis and she also had spotting between periods but she also had symptoms like pain around her periods, pain during sex, etc

They could have suspected that. I don’t think that endometriosis can be seen on an ultrasound unless you have your period. Endometriosis is when the lining of the uterus grows on other organs besides uterus.

How long has your bleeding been present?

As for the cervical cancer, the cause if often not known. The incidence is bigger if you had sex and contracted HPV virus. The virus is present in about 80 to 90% of the cervical cancer cases.

If your bleeding doesn’t go away, I reckon you should see a doc again. I wouldn’t take the pills until he explained why!
