Ok so as the title says...I used to be addicted to eating drywall on a daily basis, I ate it when I was stressed of overwhelmed or just upset in general. It first happened back when I was 13 going on 14, there was a huge whole in the wall by our front due door to my sister being shoved into it when her and my other sister got into a psychical fight- long story short my niece and nephew used to pick at our room wall when they were two and three- it caused a small whole at the base of our window and thankfully we stopped them before it got too out of control but it lead me to being curious about the taste of drywall since I've always been told that if you eat it then it's instant kill. Anyways I came home from school one day and on my way up the stairs in the hallway I stopped by the hole in the wall and tried a piece of it- it a really chalky/flaky taste with sharp pieces in it? I remember how I said "Mmm! I think I'm addicted to drywall now" cringy I know but that actually sealed my faith as an drywall eater of 5 years- I recently stopped this year a couple of months ago but it wasn't by choice- the house we moved to after I got addicted walls were my victims for 4 consecutive years and my siblings and my mom bullied me TERRIBLY for it and they said and did some pretty horrible things because I ate drywall BUT after we moved to our house now I did crave it daily but there wasn't in hole in this house that I could slowly make bigger or secretly dig at without them instantly knowing it was me doing it- so I just ignored my cravings and focused on other things and now I'm happily 7 months+ off of drywall and honestly I don't remember the taste or smell of it...the craving left after the first month and honestly I kinda replaced with corn starch, chalk, and nail polish poured on paper/chart board for a while before I gave up on them too and now my pica is officially gone and I've never felt better...sometimes the cravings for nail polish or chalk bounce back but I ignore it like I did with drywall and honestly cornstarch is just like dried corn so eventually you'd get tired of that taste- ANYWAYS EXTREMELY LONG STORY SHORT GUYS DRYWALL ISNT EVEN ALL THAT GOOD WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT AND IT LITERALLY f**ks YOU UP ON THE INSIDE JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE PICA RELATED- Trust me if you ignore or avoid your cravings and don't think about drywall it becomes less temping and you can move on from it- I did and I realize how little me mentally messed me up with her strange addictions but I'm glad I was able to fight it off and get rid of it completely.
Hi, guest.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I would add just this.
This condition can be dangerous and cause serious health problems, including gastrointestinal blockages, dental damage, and malnutrition. Here are some common treatment options for drywall addiction:
-
Behavioral therapy: This type of therapy can help you understand why you have developed an addiction to drywall and teach you coping mechanisms to manage your cravings.
-
Medication: In some cases, medications may be prescribed to help with underlying mental health conditions that may be contributing to your addiction.
-
Nutritional counseling: A nutritionist can work with you to ensure that you are getting the proper nutrients you need to maintain a healthy body and reduce cravings.
-
Support groups: Joining a support group for people with Pica can provide you with a sense of community and help you feel less isolated.
It's important to remember that recovery from drywall addiction takes time and patience. With the right treatment plan and support, however, it is possible to overcome this condition and regain your health and well-being.
