Yesterday I went to the gym and worked out on the treadmill for an hour, and when I came home and went to the bathroom I found blood in my underwear. I have been ovulating all week and cramping a bit on my right side, and since yesterday the cramp has been worse and I have still been bleeding. I know that it's normal to have spotty bleeding during ovulation, but this is new. It's not heavy period-like bleeding, but it is definitely more than just spotting. The blood ranged from regular red to a brownish color. It seems to have slowed down/stopped now, but I want to know what this could be. In the past I have had a bit of spotty bleeding after exercise, although I honestly don't remember if I was ovulating at the time or not. But nothing like this.

Unfortunately my gyno just left the practice and I have been sitting on my butt and not found a new one yet. I'll call my GP on Monday but if anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate to hear them.

Btw, there is zero chance that I am pregnant.

Thanks in advance.

The same thing has been happening to me for about three months. First I get pelvic pain that is sort of like menstrual cramps, but more intense. This will be followed by bleeding. I have been keeping track and it happens after I run and I'm midway through my cycle. I went to the doctor last week and my exam was normal. My OB said it was probably just ovulation, but she ordered a pelvic sonogram to rule out cysts. I am not on birth control anymore (stopped 2 years ago), so this whole thing has been quite new to me. You really should see a physician to make sure there isn't something more serious going on. Hope this helped a little.

I also get this. I go to the gym nearly everyday and find that around my time ovulation I get some bleeding ( thin redish/brown) just after which after a few hours stops, before and after ovulation there is nothing. I am 20 years old, in good shape, not on birth control and not pregnant and have never had unprotected sex. Any advice would be good?

I am 35 going on 36.

I have had your situation for 10 plus years. 3 sonos, 1 biopsy, birth control pills( to control the bleeding) and now finally a D&C.

As you can see, this kind of vaginal bleeding is not rare but many doctors will just quickly place you on the pill and put a band aid instead of trying to find out the true cause of the bleeding.

My advice is find out what is going on with your body even if it means going to several doctors that are willing to truly understand and solve the mystery.

Good luck!

The same thing just started with me. I started bleeding about 3 months ago every other day. I decided to reduce my cardio and do yoga to see if the bleeding would stop. It is heavy only on days that I do cardio but spotting occassionally on other days. I thought it was just stress, but now I'm getting concerned that it may be something a little more serious. I'm in my thirties and I'm not pregnant.

This same thing has also happened to me. I stopped working out because of this and found that the bleeding really did not stop during ovulation. At one point I remember I got huge clots during ovulation (sorry tmi!!). This send alarm bells ringing and I got to a doctor. She did an ultrasound and pelvic exam but could not figure out anything. I started taking some herbal remediy for this called vitex. It worked like a charm. Although I could not continue much longer (side effects like acne and sweating) I hope it has fixed my problem. I am going to start working out from next month and see how it is.
Vitex is a hormone corrector. So the problem is a hormonal imbalance. How is this connected to exercise I still haven't figured out. This is why BCpills will work also. I took 500 mg caps from GNC.
I am thinking of toning down my exercise schedule. I suggest everyone in such a situation do the same.
Good luck.

This happens to me too. I run fairly regularly and a lot of times when I run (but not all), i get cramps that feel like period pain while I'm running (usually when it gets really hard, like up hill), and then I will bleed lightly for 1 or 2 days after. Sometimes it's around ovulation but other times not. I've seen 2 gynos and several GPs, had an ultrasound, pap test, done hormone checks, and nothing seems unusual. Funnily enough a few years ago I also had an anaphylactic reaction (like a severe peanut allergy) and also experienced cramps and bleeding for a few days. Could it be my body's reaction to physical stress?

I got the same problem and went to a doctor. Found out my uterus is split in half and as explained by the doctor that could be the cause for my bleeding.

I'm having the same problem but it's... unpredictable. Even when I'm not mid-cycle, I can have menstrual cramps and spotting. Many, many times, when I do heavy cardio, I get cramps and bleeding. I am a team captain in a roller derby league and can't/won't stop my exercise schedule so I am hoping that my doctor prescribes the Pill and that it works to control this irritating and painful situation. I'm not usually into taking something to fix my body BUT I'm also experiencing nasty mood swings and firmly believe something is up, hormonally. There's just no other explanation besides either medical or hormonal.

Oh my gosh I have been searching the web for months to try and find women who were experiencing this too since my doctor can't help me. I usually get awful cramps when I exercise mid-cycle and sometimes I bleed just like you described. I have to stop exercising, go home and curl up. This has been happening for almost a year now (I'm 32). All that my dr can tell me is that he's never heard of it before. I know I have a small cyst on my ovaries, and my hormones are pretty imbalanced. But neither of these things would contribute to the cramping. Thinking about a second opinion. I'm sorry I can't help you, but I am so thankful you posted this bc I see there ARE women who have the same 'rare' problem as I do.

I am 35 years old mother of one and have been running for one year --3-4 miles per night 5-6 days per week. I eat well. I have also developed bleeding after heavy fast runs. Saw gyne and had pap, labs, ECC, colposcopy and ultrasound. All normal. I don't know what to do either. The gynecologist didn't know what's causing it.

I have just recently been experiencing some vaginal spotting after exercise. It has been going on for the last 2 or so weeks. I don't have any pain with it, just the spotting. It is bright red and very clear mussy. I hope someone can help me out.

Recently I started physical fitness classes and martial arts and I've found that after the sessions I have spotting

after heavier workouts the bleeding increases but not alarmingly so, and if I have stopped working out as much it gets less again to almost spotting and is pale brown

personally i feel maybe its over exertion in exercise - is it possible it could be sex? I'm 24 and I took the Morning After pill three weeks ago, but this spotting has been going on since then

and has increased everytime I do exercise

I went to the GP and she told me its nothing to worry about, the only cause for concern would be if my bleed becomes heavy and I start experiencing pain

I'm relieved to see that I'm not the only woman who is experiencing this, I just hope it goes away soon because I really want to carry on my fitness routine

I'm a 36 year old mother of two. I was a runner 25 - 30 miles a week, but when I became pregnant with my daughter, two years ago, I was immediately put on high risk...NO RUNNING! So here I am starting out again. I came home from the gym this morning after I ran on the treadmill and worked out for another half hour, realizing that I was bleeding. Bright red and clear mucus. OH MY! I've been on the internet trying to find answers until my midwives office opens...I'm so glad to know I'm not alone in this...so maybe it's a 'normal' thing that happens to us! Go figure huh?
