I have the same problem!!! I'm so glad that there are others out there. I get cramps similar to menstrual cramps while I'm doing heavy exercise (usually really intense cardio). Then I start bleeding the next day--usually just mildly. I feel like I should go get checked out, but it sounds like the drs. are pretty clueless.

Oh wow I am so glad this topic is on here. I just started back at the gym last week after a long lay off and experienced exactly the same thing. Last week it was fairly light and i thought it may have been my bodies way of reacting to the shock of getting back into it. But tonight same thing harder work out and a little heavier bleeding (no pain tho).. Never use to happen however in my time off I had a child so i'm sure my body is a little different now. Thinking the worst I rang my mum... then googled it to try and find a possible answer before i go to the doctor tomorrow. Thinking it was very unusual and uncommon I was a fairly worried but I guess it isn't. I'll sleep a little easier tonight. And I'll let you know what this doctor says.

I spoke with my doctor about this and he did a hormonal test, pap smear, and ultrasound. According to my doctor.. my body produces a significant amount of estrogen and this contributes to the problem.

I am so happy to have found this!! I recently joined a gym after nearly 6 years with little or no exercise. I currently don't have health insurance so I really didn't want to go to the doc if I didn't have to... hopefully I will have insurance within the next 2 months and then I will for sure go. I have noticed that since I stared to excercise (mainly a lot of cardio) I have similar symtoms, vagianl bleeding but, very light. I have not experienced the cramping issue but, I'm happy to know that I am not the only one who is experiencing this. Thank you so much for all of your responses!!

I am 23. I noticed spotting two days ago after 45 mins on the treadmill. I thought i am mid cycle and probably ovulating, during which bleeding is supposed to be common although I never have experienced it. No bleeding yesterday and today after 45 mins treadmill i found bleeding again. I did not exercise yesterday. About one or two months ago i took Relacore (weight loss pill) and started bleeding vaginally for about one-two weeks. Apparently the pill can cause an increase in estrogen, so that explained that. Hopefully my hormones have returned to normal? This is the first time ive had bleeding after exercise and I hope its just because im ovulating. I ALSO HOPE IT NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN!!!!!!!!! Ahh the joys of womanhood...

Hi!
After being away from power walking for a few months due to fatigue syndrome I have started to take it up again. I only walked every other day and was fine but since I have been walking every day I have started to get a light pinky/brown discharge when I get home, I am mid cycle so I could be ovulating but it has not happened before. I don't get cramps and it has been for about 3 -4 days this has occurred, I don't get discharge for the rest of the day only while walking. If it continues to happen I will go to the doc, I may try not walking tomorrow to see if I still get it.

I am so glad I found this chat. I too have had bleeding after running. It lasts for a couple of days and is only very light. My GP said it was probably a hormone imbalance and then said there was no way to test for hormone imbalances so they would try me on the pill. He wanted me to have swabs to check for infection first but quite honestly I felt fobbed off. I am also experiencing fatigue which I thought could be related. He checked my eye lids to see if I was anaemic and said that was fine. I am worried because my mum had ovarian cancer in her 30's and I am 34. Don't want to jump the gun so getting a second opinion in a couple of days.

I also went to the doctor about this. I often have a type of bleed after running and was pretty concerned as I plan to start a family in the next few years (not pregnant yet though and never have been). The doctor sent me for swabs to check for infection. They came back clear, so then he sent me for an ultrasound scan. That also came back clear, no cysts or anything. Since then the only advice has been to try the pill or just put up with it.
While I would still like to know just what is causing it I am not as concerned now as the scan has made me feel a lot calmer about the situation. I would advise anyone else to go to the doctor and at least get a scan, so that you know that you've been checked.

Oh my gosh! I have been dealing with this for 4 years! I have had 3 doctors all tell me they have never heard of this before and that there is nothing wrong. I too had ultrasounds, biopsies, and my doctor suggested the pill but I am turning 40 today and I do not want to go on the pill! uterine ablation was suggested but with no guarantee of results. I do have pain in my lower right side, almost in my hip. Even though the docs tell me i'm ok, every time it happens I get stressed about it and stop exercising. i'm convinced they are missing something. Plus it's just really gross with all the bloody discharge! please post if you find anything out.

Yes, I just started exercising three days ago to get the winter inch or two off my abs for the summer. I did cardio and ab targets today and just sit ups yesterday and some cardio day before yesterday. Ok it started tonight I went in the bathroom and here I am posting about what happened. Like everyone else I got worried when I saw bright red. Oh, I am 28, not pregnant and have had one child by c-section 7 years ago, not on BC. I do have a question for all though could the c-section have caused this imbalance because it seems to sting slightly and pulling sensation inside my lower stomach area in the bladder region. %-) :-( I have not worked my abs out since the c-section, but I was one of the lucky ones, I weighed less after the baby than I did before I was pregnant and I just gained the weight because I really hibernated this winter in the cold north and pigged out on Chocolate and peanut butter you know the candy bar thing. Well anyway I could not gain weight before then all of a sudden all winter that was my diet. I moved from the humid/mild south to the frigid/dry way up north in the beginning of winter and I just got out of there. Anyway I was just wondering if a c-section can cause these problems later in life ie. with exercise. ?

Thanks for this thread. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in this. I tried not going to the gym after my period, and there was no spotting. However, the after the next cycle (and I thought everything was back to normal), I had spotting again. It usually occurs around 4 hours after exercise, but stops by night time. I'll be scheduling a check-up with my ob-gyn on this yet.

I have experienced the same thing you guys have. Spotting after exercise. I've been running/cycling for a little over a year now. I have just turned 35 and I think my hormones are starting to change. My periods are starting to become irregular and I spot after exercise sometimes. I have regular check ups and so far so good. It is good to know that I am not alone and that other women have experienced this and their Doctors have found nothing wrong. I am due for my yearly in a couple of months and plan to discuss this at length with my doctor.

Thank you to everyone for adding to this.

I went for a smear test about 10 months ago. The nurse said she couldn't take a sample as I was bleeding. That really worried me. I was booked for another test a few months later and that time there was no bleeding but in the months between tests, I noticed spotting (from dark red to brown, light and lasting a few days, with no pain). A few months ago I had another smear and again I was bleeding. This time the nurse suggested that it could be an STD. I was tested for STDs - all were negative. Subsequent smears tests were all fine. The doctor and nurse are quite sure there is nothing wrong with me.
One day whilst doing a sit-up, I felt a slight vaginal discharge, my period was not due. Sure enough when I checked, there was spotting. I've been watching it closely now and have noticed that the mid cycle spotting occurs a day or two after strenuous exercise. When I don't exercise, there is nothing. I realise that the spotting started shortly after I increased the time and intensity I run on the treadmill, I work out about once a week for around 2-3 hours.
I'm pretty sure that the bleeding is caused by my strenuous workouts so I'm not overly concerned and the doctor has no concerns about my health but if there are any changes with the bleeding, I will get it checked again.

I got little strength by seeing this forum. Same thing is going on with me whenever i try to do some exercises. I started doing abs and cardio routine for past 3 person days. I thought i am the only person to suffer like this but so many of us are suffering the same kind of thing. During last summer i got severe menstrual cramp in a very sudden night. Doc told like you are absolutely normal and you have little cysts in ovaries and it will get reduced normally and suggested to have some Advil when pain comes. I am unable to do my exercises well. If anybody got any information how to cure/avoid this problem, please let me know.

Thanks to all of you who shared and helped me to share with u...

Take care:)
