I too have this problem and hopefully can share some of my knowledge with all of you. I am only 20 but have suffered from this for a long time. I have a thick discharge that is odorless but somewhat bitter. It isn't very thick and doesn't cling to my vaginal walls, it just comes out a little at a time and dries rather quick after it comes out. The symptoms vary through the month with more or less discharge but never goes away for more than a few days at a time. My doctor tested me for every STD n infection out there and he also collected some of the discharge and placed it under a microscope. All tests were negative but what he did find out by placing the discharge under a microscope that it was made up of white blood cells. He told me that my body produces too many white blood cells and that is my body's way of getting rid of some of them. There is a name for the condition but I can't remember it for the life of me and doc said the name isn't really important. Anyways it's something that I've learned to live with and knowing that it isn't serious has made it a lot easier for me to live with. Since it's not out of control I usually just have to change my panties once through the day when discharge appears and go on with my day. I only had an issue with bitterness for a very short time a few years ago but for people who do experience it frequently if you do have the same condition as I do then the best thing you can treat that with is talk to a nutritionalist and they will be able to provide you with info on all sorts of foods that will neutralize the bitterness. I hope I could help some of you even though this is a very old thread and I'm sure that not everyone's symptoms are from the same cause as mine. Talk to a doctor and nutrisionalist and do not let them dismiss your concerns! If u talk loud and often enough they will listen and if not them find someone who will. Good luck to everyone!

i'm 38 yrs-old and only had this problem for less than a year. i'm not on birth control but i am on blood pressure meds. i started the meds i'm on now about 2 yrs ago. started having the discharge about 9-10 months ago. i got pregnant in about september so my doc changed my meds. the discharge went completely away. i had a miscarriage in january and my doc put me back on the first meds and the discharge came back.

Ok I'm only 20, I have been with my fiancé for 2 years. Before he and I were together, I had never even had a yeast infection. Out of literally nowhere, I start having think white discharge. I have gone to the doctor numerous times with the same excuse, it's normal. Iv changed my bc twice to lower hormone dose. It has actually gotten worse. It never ends but on occasion gets worse. Unlike everyone else tho, it causes frequent yeast infections with me which makes it even more unbearable. I am on a bc called reclipsen. And on my last 2 paps. Results have come up irregular but because I am under 21, they won't run tests to find out why. My fiancé have sex maybe once a MONTH because of how bad it gets.
I'm in serious need of advice. It's beyond ridiculous at this point.

Vaginal discharge varies in its nature and consistency from one person to another and even for one person throughout the menstrual cycle. Commonly the discharge is grayish white or clear. The cells come from the vaginal lining and fluid from the vagina and the cervix. It often gets thin (non clumpy) at mid cycle of the menses because the cervical mucous is thin and copious if ovulation has taken place that cycle. In the 2nd half of the cycle it becomes thickened and sometimes clumpy under the effect of progesterone. These are all normal mechanisms to help a woman become pregnant at the mid cycle time of ovulation and then "block" the cervix in the 2nd half of the cycle so that if a pregnancy occurs there won't be any ascending infection.

i'm 17 & i've had this problem for two years now.
i haven't had sex yet but i noticed that it gets on my underwear. i have researched and none of the symptoms seem to match a yeast infection except the white discharge. it is starting to worry me & makes me not even want to think of having sex because i'm so embarrassed

I am having the exact same problem. i have had an std in the past (chlamydia). But i was treated for it. shortly after that i devoloped the white clumpy discharge. However, it makes me itch and is uncomfortable. does anyone else experience the itching? and i also am not on any birth control and never have been. it doesnt itch badly just like a head scratch. but when i shower and wash it out and douche i feel fine for a couple hours i also experience the part where it gets all over my boyfriends penis but i dont get dry often. he also gave me an std in the first time we had sex becuz he didnt know he was carrying it. I think it wud have to do something with the man because most of you have mentioned that you have been with the same partner for the majority of the time. maybe they shud get checked out please respond to me if any of you have experienced the itching.

I am 32 and am suffering this aggravation right along with the rest of you. About 4 years ago is when I started to notice the thick, slightly clumpy, white discharge. My boyfriend at the time said it had a slightly sour taste as well. And like so many of you, sometimes it was so thick that it would coat my bf's penis and then rub off like dead skin after it dried. I have no issues with vaginal dryness and most of the time during sex it isn't as noticeable. I am not on birth control, have no children, and have also been tested for every std in the book. Only difference is, I was diagnosed with HPV. After my diagnosis it continued to get worse and I had to get a LEEP in 2007. This mystery discharge began shortly after. It makes me very self conscious about intimacy and is a huge annoyance and has destroyed numerous pairs of underwear. I am a vegetarian and am wondering if it has anything to do with that. I am also a pack a day smoker. Two questions for you ladies, 1. Have any of you been tested for HPV and 2. How many of you are smokers? I'm wondering if there is a correlation between smoking, because it does dehydrate you and messes with your natural pH, or if it's a mystery symptom of HPV. I know most of these posts are 2 years old but if any of you have HPV or are smokers then maybe there is a way to treat this so we can stop having to deal with it.

omg, i am sooooo happy to know i'm not the only one dealing with this! i've been to soo many doctors trying to figure out whats wrong. Like my discharge is ALWAYS there and I'm so embarassed to have sex with my boyfriend, cuz if he removes my underwear he's gonna see all the discharge thats on it :(. Anyways I was referred to another gyno ..and he actually used a camera, which also allowed me to see inside. He ended up telling me that some women have larger cervical cells, which causes more discharge to be produced because there is a larger surface for bacteria to be on it. I was happy to finally here a more in-depth explanation, but the discharge is still there and it's still ever so annoying. I plan on easing up on all the carbs i intake so hopefully this might have an effect on this issue.

Well, just to add to the knowledge base here,
I am seventeen and am not, and never have been, sexually active. There is nothing to suggest this being transmitted in some way, shape or form from anyone else.
I have been experiencing verymuch the same symptoms as everyone here since a few months after I first got my period, at 13.
There is ever present clumpy white discharge, that seems to be excessively acidic. In VERY LARGE AMOUNTS In addition, varying with my cycle, there is also a very stingy, clear, elastic discharge, OR a very watery milky discharge.
It has gotten so bad, that i can no longer stand the constant wetness on my underwear or pad. It just causes too much irritation and redness on my vulva (simply from sitting in something very wet and acidic for extended periods of time) that i have resorted to using tampons on an almost daily basis. I know that isn't good, but I simply cannot walk around clenched like my panties are soaked all the time. Getting my period actually comes as a relief because I don't have to scoop white stuff out of myself at the end of the day. I do make every effort to keep myself clean, and have never been on birth control.
The only medication I have ever been on has either been several years before puberty, or within the past year....
I do know that I eat a ridiculously healthy diet, thanks to my mother, and there have been no major changes to it (aside from increasing eat-and-runs in the past 2 or 3 years)
I do know that dehydration is probably an issue with me, as I have never drank more than about a litre of liquids a day
I have also tried all common remedies (excepting the peroxide), as well as yeast infection kits. several times. to no success
I did go to the doctor and complain, and he did do an examination, as well as test for infections/stds. which were all negative. according to him, i am "perfectly normal".
I do plan to go to an OB/GYN soon, but this is really, really taking up a good deal of my life!!!!

CYTOLYTIC VAGINOSIS

The treatment for it is so simple even I couldn't believe it -- Just sit in a bath water that has a bit of baking soda in it and in extreme cases - mix baking soda and water together and make a paste and apply it to the sore external parts of the vagina.
It literally is that simple.

am I the only one not comforted by hearing case after case of other women saying Ive had this for years? and that doctors agree there is nothing to be done? this doesnt comfort me at all. I am a very sexual person and I have had this about 8 months. in which tim Ive had sex about 3 times, all uncomfortable and with me having extreme difficulty climaxing because of discomfort/pain and little enjoyment because my head was stuck in how gross this was. Im a big lover of oral sex both giving and receiving but I dont want to ask someone to endure that bitter taste. I frigging hate it and the fact that so many are affected makes me feel no better, frankly its worse that so many of us are stuck with this c**p "normal condition" and has given me zero hope. I thought that if I go to a gyno they might have a better idea but I read many of you who have and sounds like you have faired no better.
