virus causing blisters in the mouth of toddler

Hi, My granddaughter who is almost 2 years old. Developed blisters in her mouth that caused her to gush blood. Scared us so we took her to the Dr. But we were so relieved to know it was just a virus we forgot to ask the name of the virus. It was not Thrush.Any help would be helpful thanks Kathy
