Hello, folks. I have some eye problems. My doctor recommends vitrectomy as a solution. I am not sure whether to do this. I have even heard something that this procedure can cause cataract. I would really like to know whether this is true. What do you know about this? Your opinion is more than welcomed.
Hello. I have heard something familiar myself. Doctors are investigating the possible causes of cataract. That is why they have questioned eye procedures. I am not 100% sure. Vitrectomy has its benefits, I am sure. However, this is something you should discuss with your ophthalmologist. He will know best. I hope everything will be all right. Good luck! Bye!

Yes, it is true that there is a high probability of developing cataracts as the result of a vitrectomy. Because of the severe risks (blindness) a vitrectomy should only be offered as a solution if the issue is causing severe vision disruption. If your vision is not disrupted to a point of you being unable to function, you should not be considering a victrectomy.
