Wow, I can't believe how many people suffer from this. I am dealing with this, with my 13 year old daughter. Every morning she wakes up and there goes the coughing and then vomit of phlegm. After her 5 minute episode, although she continues to have nasal congestion all day she feels better. I am trying to analyze this and one fact is that producing phlegm and mucus is the bodies way of ridding foreign objects and bacteria. This begins around October for her and we live in Southern California where it is very dry. This year it has lasted longer as we are experiencing extreme, extended dryness (which is also causing all the wildfires). For my case, I have wondered: Is it because it is so dry that her body is overproducing, Is the extra dust causing this? I think the root of the problem is to figure why the body is producing so much. I'll post back if I get some results.

Same symptoms, only difference is im awoken each day by the nausea several hours before id normally awaken. And its almost like clockwork. 8am. Just started a year ago and it went away after a trip to the hospital for unrelated issues. (IV fluids and Morphine were both administered)

Doc has me on omeprazole and zantac to reduce acid and while that improves my morning puke ritual it hasnt ended it.

In support of it being a symptom of generalized anxiety disorder. Started when we rescued a 3 day old kitten that was on a tight feeding achedule.

Zofran would keep me from actually puking but wouldnt end the nausea.
.5mg of xanax fixes the nasty feeling once my stomach settles, but not much that wont make better even if its not anxiety related.

Good luck all

This is crazy.
I'm 25, ive been nauseous when waking up early for the past at least 10 years. If I wake up before 7/8, I vomit the saliva.
The past 4 months I've thrown up saliva at least 20 times. I live in Florida, and it started happening more frequently after a week trip to Vegas. I think the extreme humidity change messed with my sinuses.
I finally went to my walk-in clinic because I threw up saliva with specks of dried blood in it (I think it's from vomiting so frequently). The doctor put me on singulair. I took it for 2 weeks and it seemed to help, I stopped vomiting.
But I haven't taken it in 2 nights and I just vomited again after having a dry cough all night. Am I going to have to live the rest of my life on prescription allergy medicine? Claritin, Allegra, Zyrtec didn't work for me.
Stress definitely makes it worse too.
So weird.

I can't believe there are so many people suffering from this. I thought I was crazy! I wake up every morning at 7:30am like clockwork. I feed my cat and make myself a cup of coffee. From the moment I wake up I can feel the phlegm in the back of my throat and my first thoight is always NOT AGAIN! As soon as I take that first sip of coffee that's it! I'm in the bathroom blowing my nose and eventually throwing up the rest of the phlegm and sometimes, not all the time, bile. I've even cut out drinking coffee to see if that would help. No such luck. This happens every morning no matter what. I've tried laying in bed a while longer to maybe have thinhs settle. No luck. The moment I get up I can feel it building up. I know where I'm going to be for the next 5-10 minutes.
I've never had this before. It just started about 6 months ago. I've changed my diet, no fatty foods, I only drink water and I clean my room weekly with no luck. UGH! I just want one morning where I don't vomit my guts out. Just one is all I ask. I've seen a few people talk about Nexium. I'll try that and see how it goes.

It is amazing that doing a quick search has led me here and to everyone who is experiencing the same thing. The only problem is now i read of alot of things i need to take yet i haven't really read of this problem going away. I need weed, i need to not eat meat, dairy or other items, i need nexium, i need to clean the house more and tell my wife to stop smoking, i need to sleep standing up, i need to move to another house. Hmmmmm.. That's all stressful with just one of those remedies, wasn't stress one of the problems alot of people said we need to reduce ? many thanks for everyone who has posted here, it shows that i am not alone with what i have experienced. I would dare say that it's the dust in the air causing the issue, possibly deeper cleaning may fix this. Something no-one has commented on, carpet. do all of you have carpet in your bedrooms ? I think you will find that alot of people have carpet, which is harboring dust, mould and alot of other nastier organism. I've really taken on board alot of this and will attempt to change alot of things to see if it goes. Note: Ive had two surgeries (throat and nasal) it stopped briefly but hasn't fixed me.

I'm having the same issue. I've been puking everyday since middle school. Every once in a while it will stop because life is good and there's nothing stressful going on but I finally went to the doctor last month because it started during finals week and my aunt died during said week and haven't quit since then except the one time I took a Xanax. That one time, I woke up and didn't puke. In middle school I found out if I self harmed the night before I wouldn't puke the next morning but that wasn't a good habit. I'm glad it's not just me that experiences this from stress.

Hey! So ive been having this issue for about a year and the best way i have found to combat it is dont eat anything 2-3 hours before you go to be, then take medicine for acid refulx (i got prescribed nexium), and take allergy medicine and nose spray, and along with this lift the top of your bed up (put like a piece of ply wood or some bricks). My dr told me that its most likely a post nasal causing the eshpoghas spincter to stay open causing acid reflux and leading to that in the morning. Hope this helps i know how not fun it is.

its anxiety mixed with ur phlegm and stuff tickling your throat and a prominent gag reflex allowing it all to trigger. have you ever been anxious from your alarm clock or someone waking you up in mornings? maybe missing lots of college and the continuous alarm in the mornings and feeling of shittiness in the mornings making you miss class and then again the next morning essentially having missed school cause anxiety and make you feel sick and then abruptly waking up with such anxiety while coming out of a deep sleep so quick and then feeling shitty making you not go to school and then anxious about missing school so you feel the need to for sure go the next day and then the next day youre anxious and maybe sleep shitty again and dont get a full rest and ur in a deep sleep and bam your alarm starts the cycle again waking you up to quick while in full anxiety mode feeling sick and gaggy and not wanting to go to school cuz ur too sick and gonna throw up etc and eventually it got bad enough and mixed with your nasal drip and stuff it triggered actual puking

Just an observation based on what you wrote... you moved out of previous house and state so I think very well could have been an allergen to something in your home or yard.
