I had the nova sure ablation today and am concerned to hear everyone's story about weight gain. I didn't have a merina coil inserted just the one I had removed. The coil is often inserted at the same time as the ablation and has issues with weight gain due to the slow release of hormones. Could this be why you have all had this issue?

I had the surgery in 2008 and have been stuck between 200-210 every since then, I am 5'10". I even juiced organic vegetables with no other foods for couple weeks with maybe 1-2lbs lost. I have worked out, sweated and cried until there is nothing left. I wonder how lipo would work, although I am not sure if it is mainly water weight or just simply fat. Also, the cost/risks may be too much. I weight in at 165 before the surgery.

Hello. I had the Novasure as well. I gained about 40 pounds and did not have the merina coil as well. After a few years of steady weight gain my PCP placed me on BHRT. No help. Also, I was afraid of the risk of taking Bioidentical Hormones (BHRT), so I stopped after about a year, but still did not help in regulating my hormones. Not sure what to do now, same boat as most others with same problem on this board.

Well done :-) I think some people like to miss the point that they are still most likely not eating right or not burning more than they consume. Ablation removes your lining that's it. It doesn't change your metabolism or your eating habits or your hormones. What can change your eating habits is your mental well being. Ever thought that some of you ladies were down prior/after the procedure for what ever reason (not being able to reproduce any more), and you really haven't been as strict on your healthy eating as you'd like to tell yourself? I'm a huge culprit for working my ass off and feeling like I'm getting no where. Its the snickers bar as I'm laying in bed at night after kids have finally gone down to bed, I swear. But what ever it is for the rest of you good luck finding answers... id like to think they weren't hiding or misinforming anyone.

I had the procedure done approximately 3 years ago. I felt better post procedure then i had in years. Until i noticed the weight gain. I had no idea where it was coming from, my habits hadn't changed and when i asked my doctor, he told me that Ablation does not attribute to weight gain. When looking back at some pictures i'd taken prior to the procedure, my body has morthed into something totally different than what i'm used to. I have gained a whopping 40 lbs and can't seem to get rid of it. All in the abdominal area and don't talk about the back fat.. oh goodness. Any answers out there??

I had an ablation done in May, 2015. Since then, I've gained about ten pounds in my abdomen. I've never had kids so I've always had a small waist. I'm also a gym rat so I've had six pack abs for twenty years. Now I look like I'm in early pregnancy. Not only do I have a front pooch, but my waist and back seem to be thickening too. I constantly feel crampy and bloated. I KNOW my body! Something is NOT RIGHT!!!!!

I know you all will just hate me though I am 6 foot tall and super thin; I am having this next week and would love to see if I could gain 1 lb. I am the total opposite; can't gain a pound if I ate all the worst things in the world. Now keep in mind, I have 5 children (all mine) and in my mid-40's. No thyroid issues or anything else; I've checked it all. Just would love to start shopping in the big girl department instead of juniors. Nothing like being over 40 with a pair of jeans with a rhinestone butterfly on the back pocket. :(

I too have gained weight that I cannot seem to lose after my ablation. Within three months of the surgery put on 18 pounds. Now I have put on 30+ pounds and I struggle daily to get rid of it. I was told the surgery had nothing to do with my weight gain but I do not believe that statement. And now two years after the ablation and having light easy periods I am bleeding for two weeks at a time every two weeks. My periods are so heavy and I am clotting a lot as well, and at times I feel like I don't even want to stand up and go anywhere. I feel like that was a complete waste and I wish they would've just taken my uterus. My fear is I'm going to have to return and get another ablation or a hysterectomy. I've been told it's normal due to my age, 47, and to take ibuprofen 800 mg every eight hours until the bleeding stops. I'm thinking this is NOT a healthy or long-term solution, nor is it lightning up my periods. Miserable! And extremely disappointed!

Well ablation done and back to work the very next day... now pain at all. However soon did you all notice the weight gain? I'm one of eager people who wants a few pounds. Having Lupus definitely impacts weight loss and would really enjoy a few pounds to fill my body out some.

I was wondering if weight gain was common after having an endometrial ablation. I had the procedure done almost 4 years ago and I have gained 100 lbs. The most I have been able to lose is 20 and then it goes up.

I've followed a lot of forums on this topic. I've never heard of anyone gaining 100 pounds after ablation. Most people claim 10-45. I personally gained 30. I've gotten 25 of it back off with strict diet. I have always been a very fit person, super athletic so 30 pounds was a HUGE deal to me. I am convinced it is from ablation despite the doctors swearing it's not. Too many people claim weight gain after. Have you had your thyroid checked?
