I had a kidney transplant 2 years ago and prednisone will be part of my daily routine for life, after a great deal of research and trial, I found 2500 mg of vitamin C eliminated my moon face. It is water soluble so it does not build up in the body. I will take it forever. I was so depressed before!!!

For me (usuallybhave to be around 60 mg each time I need and then VERY slow taper) the moon face is basically impossible to avoid although I keep it at bay for a couple of weeks by immediately doing at least an hour a day to sweat to help with the water retention (I recommend an elliptical so it’s not so hard on your knees as sometimes prednisone affects your bones). Also at least 4-5 water bottles a day..:really as much as you can drink. Definitely start measuring your sodium intake to less than 1000mg a day or as little as you can Bc the saltier your diet the more the water retention and moon face...and bananas and foods that are high in potassium for sure! It’s probably not good but I weigh myself everyday to make sure I’m maintaining weight Bc all that diet and exercise is just to maintain weight on prednisone :/ but at least when you’re off it now you have great habits! And it does come right off when you start to taper down...hope this helps!

Speak for yourself! It’s saving my life.
Just because a drug works well for some doesn’t mean it doesn’t help others.
I’ll take a fat face and cramps over bleeding out of my intestines and laying on the floor puking.

I have been diagnosed with GCA after six months of having it. I also have Polymyalgia. I was put on a 20mg dose of Prednisolone for two weeks then reduced to 15mg and all hell broke loose. Eventually I was re-started on 60mg then 50mg then 40mg. Now I am on 35mg and reducing by 5 every two weeks. I am 70 years old and have always been very active. These illnesses hit me like a sledgehammer. I have turned into a bloated, ugly little old lady who can hardly walk. Maybe if I had been diagnosed earlier things may have been different. I started to loose sight in my right eye. I was sent to the eye hospital but it wasn’t picked up. Six months on my balance had gone, I was in horrendous pain in upper arms and shoulders, hips and groin. That was the Polymyalgia. I had never heard of these illnesses before. Now I am constantly out of breath and feel like the fat is choking me. Going up stairs is difficult. I am not writing this for sympathy but to let people know these things can happen. In the UK 3.500 people go blind every year because the symptoms are not recognised. As soon as vision starts to go in one eye the patient should be put on 60mg of Prednisolone before a diagnosis is confirmed to preserve the sight. I wish you all well and forgive my ranting.

There is no reason to be rude to people asking a question. The side effects are horrific and shame on you to speak to someone that way.

Prednisone, as miserable as it can be, saves lives. Ask anyone with severe asthma or bee sting allergies.

Actually you both can be right. He could be allergic. But it’s probably just effects of taking it. For me I’m allergic and that’s what’s causing my face to swell. I’m trying to figure out what I can do to make it a little better.

I know you posted this a while ago but I just took dex for three weeks and I've been off of it for about a week now. I have steroid acne all over and my face and stomach are swelling. I also have joint pain. I was wondering how you got rid of the acne?
