Hello! My father has been diagnosed an early stage of cataract. His father (my grandfather) had a cataract surgery two years ago. He was released home after two hours, he didn’t have any complications and his vision improved a lot. Since my father has a fear of losing of his vision (I don’t know why since cataract surgery is safe and successful) he would like to know is there anything that could slow cataract grow in this early stage.
Hello! Well, you have to understand your father since the fear of losing vision is the second greatest fear, next to death, among the elderly. Also, cataract is the one of the major causes of vision loss and it is a combination of heredity, aging process and environment. If your father smokes he has to quit since smoking presents the greatest risk of cataract developing. He has to wear a good pair of sun glasses and a hat with wide brim. His nutrition should be healthy, well balanced and he should avoid any exposure to infrared light and radiation such as X-rays or other sources.
