My father is 65 years old suffer from Huntington’s chorea in last 8 years. Doctors have told me that Huntington is hereditary disease but I have not developed any of symptoms. Is there a possibility that defected gene is not expressed? What tests must one undergo when testing for Huntington’s disease?
Yes, Huntington is hereditary neurological disease. Physical and psychological examination is required to determine initial symptoms. Every child of a patient with Huntington has a 50 %chance of inheriting the defected gene and consequently disease. Counseling sessions are required before the blood test but a pre-symptomatic positive blood test is not considered a diagnosis.
