are most of you ladies on hormonal birth control? I think that may be a factor because I have had this problem for 8 years now (im 24) and when I came off pill last year for 6 months things improved.
When i am on the pill have a heavy discharge, every single day. it's so heavy i feel like i've come on my period and worry it will soak through onto my trousers. It effects my whole life, I have to wear full knickers not thongs, going on holiday and wearing bikini bottoms is a nightmare, i even worry if wearing a dress/mini skirt that if i leak it'll go on my leg!!! I have No itch, NO redness, NO STD (tested) NO BV..my doctor must be SO bored of me.
Three years ago I was disgnosed with cervical erosion which is caused by excess estrogen I thought was the answer to my problems...I had this operated on and for 6 months all was ok....but then it came back again. But apparently heavy discharge is also caused by excess estrogen...oh its so confusing!!!
GP has found yeast sometimes which confused me due to lack of irritation, and the discharge isnt clumpy it just looks like...moisturiser i guess, and when i called the pharmacy they kept giving me tablets for thrush, but the last time it came back with yeast I didnt just go to the pharmacy I went to speak to the doctor and he looked at the results and said it's not thrush, but there is too much "unfriendly" bacteria there which is upsetting my PH.
he told me to use Lactacyd PH balanced shower gel and balance active gel but these did not change the discharge. I'm at my wits end but finally wondering, is this just right for me on the pill?! I dont wanna come off pill!!

As for the person that keeps having the symptoms after intercourse, if its a yeast infection, your bf probably got a yeast infection from you. (trust me, it happens) he won't show any signs or symptoms of it but he will most likely get it if you have one and ya'll have unprotected sex. So even if you treat it with meds, every time you have sex, you just get it right back from him. Explain it to your boyfriend and have him go to the clinic and you as well. Don't have sex for at least a week while you both take the meds to clear up the yeast infection. This should eliminate that problem. When we girls have a yeast infection its important that we listen to the doc and not have intercourse because it actually does transfer to the male, and then with each episode you're only sharing the infection back and forth. Hope this helps.
As for the other posts, I too am a female that has a lot of discharge with no smell no itching, no irritation. However I had the mirena for a year and a half but it made me have a yeast infection for 6 months straight so i had it taken out. Since then I've been having discharge like crazy, but no infection. I figure that the mirena (which i now call the foreign demon object bc it gave me so many problems) has just really messed up my hormones.

Here's a few things that help you get rid of the discharge without it being a problem.
Drink more Water and juice: More fluids will help the discharge pass through your urine! Sodas will actually dehydrate you which can actually Cause the discharge!
Use the restroom after sex. Always urinate after sex. I know everyone likes to cuddle but it's good to cleanse that area after sexual intercourse or even pleasuring yourself.
Take a multi-vitamin. I know you're all young but go buy a multivitamin (with Iodine) and cut it in half and take it daily! Sometimes our body has discharge due to something we are missing in our diet. This is a good way to test!
Lastly, Don't be embarrassed about this! Talk to a grown-up one on one. Not all of our bodies are built the same but we've ALL had bad feelings or experiences! It's good to worry about these things!
Goodluck everyone! :)

Alright women and ladies of all ages, I've been doing my research on this topic because for the last several months I've been experiencing everything you've been talking about.
First, yeast infection. Here's the deal. Just like everyone has said, if the discharge is white, cottage cheesy, and has a sweet smell almost like bread, and you itch, this is your issue. I've tried every remedy they have in the store, monistat, Diflucan, RePhresh, Replens, and the only thing that has worked 100 percent every single time is garlic. I suggest making yourself a little drawstring bag out of some old underwear (Just cut out a square big enough for a clove of garlic, poke holes around the edge with a safety pin, and lace some unwaxed and unscented floss through it), peel a clove of garlic, and put it in the bag and put it in like a tampon for a few hours, or at night. As long as you can stand. If you do it during the day, do it for a few hours, then take a break for a few hours, then put one in before bed. It will taste a bit funny, and smell like garlic, but it works really well because Garlic has natural antifungal and antiseptic properties. Also take some probiotics and maybe some garlic pills, especially if you don't want to use a suppository during the day.
When you want to check for a yeast infection, there's also a little home test you can do, if you're unsure. When you first get up in the morning, before you drink anything, get a glass of water and spit in it. LEave it sitting for about half an hour. If some white stringy stuff starts to collect on the surface with little legs hanging down like a jellyfish, it means you might have a little extra yeast in your system.
Second, bacterial infections. These require a doctor's appointment, a checkup, and probably a prescription. I haven't had BV, but I did have something called Cytolitic Vaginosis, which is basically the opposite of a yeast infection, where there are too many lactobaccili bacteria (all the "friendly" bacteria), so they may prescribe you a round of antibiotics. Symptoms here include lots and LOTS of lotiony white discharge, with no smell, but some itch. (I did notice a slightly sweeter smell sometimes than yeast though, but not like bread) So here's the deal, the doctor will probably prescribe you some antibiotics, TAKE THEM ALL. During this time, try eating some Vitamin C, some Calcium, some Iron, and squeeze some lemon juice into the water you drink, because even though some of these substances are acidic, your body processes them as alkaline, and it will help with the itch a little bit. And they won't hurt you because they're natural. My doctor recommended me a baking soda douche twice a week because of my circumstances but ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check with your doctor before you do any douching, as it may upset the vaginal environment and the pH balance.
Third, the white discharge. My doctor brought up some very important things about this topic. For one, you have to consider how your vaginal environment will react to new substances that are introduced to it. This has more to do with girls who have had or have been having sex. Condoms and other contraceptives have lubricants on them, which may change the pH of your vagina, and so will semen if you're not using condoms. Changes in the type of condom, lubricant, etc you use may upset your system and make it freak out a bit. That's why some women have reoccurring yeast infections, because a vagina that is already irritated needs time to recooperate. Also, the use of tampons will sometimes cause this to happen, especially scented ones. Also, men can carry yeast without showing signs of it, so if you've had one, and you're treating yourself for it, treat him too! It may be embarrassing, but it will be worth it in the long run. Just explain the situation and ask him to apply some over the counter monistat for a week or so, give him some probiotics and garic pills, and then you'll feel better.
Also, with the use of oral contraceptives, women are more suceptible to yeast and other imbalances. They are NOT considered STDs, unless they are trichomoniasis (little bugs, which cause a green, frothy discharge), or your regular chlamydia, etc. Hormone imbalances in your body may also contribute to the production of unusual discharge. Often women with estrogen dominance or excess estrogen will have this problem, but also women with ESTROGEN DEFICIENCY. This is what my doctor thinks I have, because I have a problem with vaginal dryness, and my system was out of whack to begin with. I didn't have a period until I was sixteen and then only with the help of the pill. The symptoms of this are dryness, of course, a tendency toward PCOS, and some itch and irritation and I have had some excess discharge that doesn't smell, but it's "lotiony" as you guys say. For these types of problems you DEFINITELY need to see your doctor to either get an estrogen supplement, or change your pill, or whatever. For women with estrogen deficiency, they usually prescribe estrogen supplements either in a suppository or an oral pill, or a birth control with a higher estrogen level, which may even out the imbalances and infections that may be caused by this underlying condition.
Hormone replacement can be scary, but if you have to do it, try not to do it for very long, only as much as necessary until you figure out a better alternative. But for some, it's a good option, especially if the main cause of all your problems is prolonged stress.
And that leads me to my final point. Stress can cause all of these things to happen to you, and worrying about things will cause your body to get upset to sympathize with your mental state. So if you've been dealing with a lot of gynecological problems, try getting your stress level down. St. John's Wort and Kava Kava root are great for this, they're natural, and they're inexpensive. You have to take them consistently for a few weeks, but it really does help.
Good luck,
~Emily
