Hi,

I’ve been recently prescribed Vicodin after the car accident I was involved in last week. I was hoping the medication will not only help with my injured shoulder pain, but that it will also help me get some sleep once the pain subsides, however, if I take Vicodin at night, I’m completely unable to sleep.

From all the prescribing information I’ve read this is not something that should be happening because opioid medications usually won’t keep you awake all night, if anything - they have warnings about slowing down breathing and whatnot. So I’m wondering - am I the only one who has this reaction to Vicodin?

I have the same problem. If I want to clean my house< I'll take one. It lasts for three and half hours. Is there anything out there that does both, pain releif and sleep. There a lot of us out here with the same problem. I call it having a reverse system. I can't find anything yet on the search engines to help with this problem.

I have the same problem and I'm allergic to codeine. Norco also keeps me awake. Percocet is the only one that I've found that lets me sleep and handles the pain. I've never had delotid or morphine so I have no clue what those would do to me. Lol

The exact same thing happens to me. It’s 2:30 am as I type this , and I found this thread because I was looking up “why does Vicodin keep me awake.” Norco also keeps me awake (although I think that’s generic Vicodin).

Hi Matt, my seven year old son had the same problem when he was given Vicodin after having his tonsils removed. Doc said to expect him to sleep a lot post-op, but the opposite happened. He didn’t sleep at all. I’m told my brother was the same way when given Benadryl.
