So, my horse accidentally stomped right in the middle of my left foot last September. :-( It was extremely painful, but, I just decided to buck up and finished working with my horse that afternoon, came in and put it up and iced it. My foot was very swollen across the top, but I could still hobble around so, I did the unintelligent thing and told myself, "No need to go to the doctor, I'll just see how it feels in a week..." The swelling finally dissapated, and the bruising went away and it was mostly better. I walk every day and by winter, it was still sore but tolerable so I kept going... then late this spring/summer I decided to start training for a sprint triathlon.

Running made the swelling come back and I it became very painful. If figured if I wanted to continue to train, I should find out what was going on, so, I bucked up and went to the orthopedic group who did my ACL reconstruction a couple years ago. I was diagnosed with a probable lisfranc injury, and my doctor injected the joint with a steriod. Within a couple days I was basically pain free. I went back three weeks later and my doc told me that yes, I did have a lisfranc injury, the injection not only helps but is diagnostic.

He basically said to keep doing what I want too, and when the pain gets too bad, to schedule surgery to fuse the joint. I have good days and bad days at this point, I know the injection is still helping right now... yay! So, I am going full speed now and have surgery scheduled for late November, (a good time for work). So, have any of you had surgery this long post injury? What kind of result did you have? Am I crazy to have the surgery at this point? I want to get back to full speed to compete again. My surgeon said he's had several athletes back to full speed within a year and even a few marathoners (though he said he cringes at those) LOL!
