My 17 month old just passed bloody stool with funny smell...doesnt smell normal, should i be worried?
Hi Jade: 1st of all was he/she constipated OR had diareha? Have they shown signs of any illness lately? AND the most important, was the blood IN the stool or on top of it - as in dripping from the anus on to it?

Blood in the stool is not normal, IF nothing else is going on. That said, your little one MIGHT have worms! o.O I know that's shocking, but as I'm sure you are aware, if it is lying around a baby will eat it!!! Does your child have a fever, or a sore tummy? If so you need to get him seen by a doctor, there are several types of medication that they use now adays for this. And there are herbal meds too, I just wanted you to make sure with the doctor that indeed it would be worms.

You will need to have a sample of your childs stool for the lab to test. The doctor will give you a kit and the instructions of what to do.

IF the blood was dripping onto the stool, then your baby might have a little tear or hemoroid - if they have been constipated. Also any intestinal infection can cause blood in the stools too.

So get seen by a doctor, and get the stool tested, and then they can determine if it's worms or an infection. Over 55 million American children have intestinal worms. So don't worry if your child is one of them - even if your not American ;-) XD . They will be fine! If you RALLY REALLY want too, take a sample of their stool and give it a close look, intestinal worms can be about 1cm long - 1/2 inch (If you're American). And the smell suggests an infection. So it all kind of adds up.

Don't worry, and let me know how everything works out OK? Good luck hun!

Hi,

Follow Bambi's advice. It doesn't mean that you need to worry but you do need to have it checked.

If you've kept the sample clean, wrapped in the diaper, then take it to the doctors. They'll probably give you a collection kit but at least they can get an idea as to what you're describing.

Please let us know how you make out.
