My son is almost 2 years old and sometimes when he gets really upset and is crying he will get really quite and it seems that he is holding his breath but actually he has stopped breathing and actually will start to have his lips turn blue. I will have to try and jar him out of it by shaking him or slapping his back and sometimes if it is mild blowing in his face will work. It seems to get harder and harder to get him breathing again each time it happens. Is this something he will grow out of and is there anything I can do to prevent it?

Have you asked your pediatrician about the issue? We seem to have toddlers in the same boat and curious as to how your Dr. handled it... I am leaning towards neurological issues, but will wait for some professional opinions.
