My dd8 has been complaining for itchy teeth for a few hrs. She says that at times it also feels like her teeth are shivering. She IS bovine protein sensitive and had an unfamiliar brand of ice cream today. She also had a pineapple ice pop that she's never had before. I'm guessing it's an allergic reaction. I'm curious if the benadryl helps. We keep it handy since her allergy has always been very unpredictable. Her symptoms usually include one or more of the following: ER visit constipation pain, diarhea, hyperactivity and hyper speech, rash, excema and excess mucos from every orifice, so the sinus thing makes sense. I just can't imagine how you handle an itch that you can't scratch?

I was told that I have candida and to stay away free sweets, fruits but the berries I can have.  I have to have at least one a yogurt a day. It is very hard  And it was aggravated from Dental work.  so I hope this helps. I am always dairy free and wheat free.

Yes I agree when it itches I get worn out because I just don't know what to itch it with.  I used Nyastatin swish and don't swallow.  I am tired of all of it .  I have to go back to the dentist on wednesday. I think that something is going on.  I will keep all of you posted.

Yes...please let us know what you find out. I've contacted dieticianist (doctor) and at this point, she's having me fill out a ton of questionaires, keep a food journal, bring in all or my blood tests and every vitamin, supplement and product I intake and put on my skin.  She'll be testing me on 2000 "items", including my own saliva, protein etc etc. Of course...it's not covered by my insurance but as you all know, I've just got to do it. Can't stand this. BTW...the only thing that helps is when I take an anti anxiety pill but it also makes me sleepy. And, I obviously just can't stay living on anti anxiety meds. I'll keep you informed as well.

I would try yeast free and no sugar because sugar feeds yeast.  I know i have candida from other places.  i cannot have juice either. I drink alot of water.  you should try this for a month before you go crazy with nutritionists.

I too was told it was Candida or microscopic worms not seen to the eye.   I was on diet for a long time it did help but still not completely gone.  Denitist
did not want to hear that.  Every time I would say what a naturepath dr. said he would ignore laugh or make it seem like I was crazy.  If anything good came of the diet I am at my ideal weight lol.  and did make me feel healthier.

Thank  you for your comment. Did you have the itching around some gums. I have also had major dental work which can flare things up.  The diet is hard. I am also usually Nyastatin swish and I don't swallow it.

Just came from a doctor that believes that (possibly) due to the amt of chronic emotional stress I've been under these past couple of years, I've lowered or bottomed out my seratonin levels which has greatly empacted my nervous system causing this crazy itchy gum situation. That OR/AND I'm having an allergic reation to something that's going into my body daily and because my nervous system has never had time to re-boot/rest from the all the stress. They're going to run some tests and get me started on some different supplements/vitamins etc. I'm hopeful and will keep everybody informed. Also direct these doctors to this site as there's sooo many of us with the same issue.

Thanks for this information. I am going to ask my internist about this as well because my mouth has gone through hell for two years now.

met with a doctor and we talked about the possibility that my nervous system has been effected by depleted seratonin levels (due to chronic stress)...therefore leading to this maddening itchy gum thing. I've started on some supplements that have proven to be very helpful to others with nerve disorders. (ALS, MS, neuropathy etc) I started taking the products on Friday 6/3 so we'll see ....  I'm very hopeful and excited! Hopefully I'll be telling you all very soon that my gums are no longer bothering me. I'll keep you all informed. :) :)

I am so pleased to have found this thread. I too have been suffering from itchy gum syndrome and sore Tongue. I feel as though I have ulcers on my Tongue. I have been to the doctor and my daughter is a dentist but neither are able to help.My daughter has recommended using Difflam mouthwash and warm salty water as a mouthwash, they both help temporarily but the irritation always returns. My gums were so itchy just now ,it was driving me mad, I was at the end of my tether and after having tried all other suggested remedies I rinsed out my mouth with White vinegar and I must say although this made my mouth sting and burn quite a bit the irritation so far seems to have subsided but I don't know how long that will last! It's only been about 45 mins! I don't know whether this is connected to other symptoms I've been experiencing over the last several months, they are as follows - flu like symptoms, general irritation all over, chronic fatigue, feeling very hot suddenly for no reason, foggy memory, unsteady on my feet occasionally, all these symptoms come and go almost every day. I have been to the doctor several times and had various tests but my GP doesn't know what is wrong so he is referring me to an ME clinic, I am now waiting for an appointment. I hope I don't sound like a hypochondriac but it's really getting me down, if anyone out there has any suggestions or remedies I would be eternally grateful. Look forward to reading any replies. Please help if you can. PS Incidentally I went through the menopause several years ago. L

I sometimes feel that I'm going mad with this itch.  I've talked with every dentist I've been to about this itch and they are always clueless.  Here's my secret imagination:
I always imagine pulling two of my bottom front teeth out and then digging into the open gums with something sharp.  I play that scenario in my mind very often.
I just want some relief.

I posted the original message back in 2008, and I thought I'd give an update.  I've gone through a trial of triamcinolone (steroid ointment) directly to the affected gingiva, and I've had an injection of lidocaine directly in the tissue.  Neither has changed anything.  Short of a biopsy, I'm not entirely sure where to head next, although the possibility of a central (brain) source has crossed my mind.  (MRI of my brain was normal).  I may try a medication targeted at neuropathy, like what one of the previous posters mentioned -- something like gabapentin or lyrica.  Thanks for all the replies, though, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one out there.
