Hello, guys. My neighbor was diagnosed with breast cancer few years ago. I know that she is now 4th phase of this cancer and that she is still using gestagen. I was wondering what this all means, since I am not a medical expert and I am not so much familiar with those things. Thank you in advance.
Hi to you too. Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer in women. 4th stage is the stage of the invasive cancer. It means that it has broken the barrier of basal membrane and spread on nearby tissues and most likely will give metastasis. Progesterone (gestagen) can protect against this cancer. However, I am not sure how helpful it will be in the 4th stage of breast cancer. More aggressive treatment is needed here. I have heard that Taxane is recommended here. It is a mitotic inhibitor – it inhibits the cell division by blocking microtubules. I hope this was helpful. I am sorry to hear about your neighbor.
