I am 54 and noticed a few days ago I am having a thick mucus, colored discharge. I'm past my period for 4 yrs. and have never had this before anyone know what it could be?
Hello Christina,
It depends on what color the discharge color is and any odor associated with it. Are you familiar with yeast infections. They tend to be white and have a sweet smell not unlike bread is baking. Yeast infections are common in women and often occur due to hormonal imbalance, taking birth control or antibiotics. On the other hand, if the discharge has a yellow or perhaps gray color you may have any number of bacterial infections which more so implies some form of sexually transmitted disease (STD). If that is the case, you need to see your gynecologist right away to get medication for that. Your sexual partner may need medication as well depending on what it is.
