Hi...Let me start off by saying that I have been taking Soma & Methadone for approx 6 yrs now (along with injections, etc.) for cronic back pain. I have degenerated disk disease and a buldging disk which causes alot of pain. I was looking into surgery when I just found out I am pregnant. My pain doc told me that I HAD to detox myself. He lowered my meds by one pill a week till I'm done. I only take 4 10mgs of methadone a day (2 in am & 1 in afternoon & 1 @ night). I have been reading lots of posts on methadone saying that it is completly safe to keep on taking at low doses. I am down to 2 pills a day (1 in am & 1 in late afternoon= 20mgs daily). Has anyone had any birth defects or problems with keeping on? I also haven't heard much on the posts about Soma. Does anyone have any advise on this med? I take 1-2 pills daily of soma depending on how severe my back is. My doc wanted me to just stop taking them cold turkey but the detoxing is terrible. I feel sick, start shaking, etc. and from what Ive read then this is very bad for the baby. I really need some advise as I want to have a safe & healthy baby and sometime feel that the detoxing may be more damaging than taking meds at a low dose.

Methadone is NOT bad for baby. I have a very similar disc disease to yours and have had 2 healthy children. Ages now are 7 and 3 and they have had no birth defects or any effects in life. Plus...there a millions of methadone clinics where preg addicts use methadone to get clean and have their baby born healthy.

You should really watch the advise you give out.
Clearly if there are methadone clinins that people go to to suffer thru detox e"esp while pregnant"....then your healthy baby situation is not a medical fact..but filled w chance and risk taken ON YOUR OWN ACCOUNT.
After all, I'm a 27 yr old female virtues from a ciggarett smoker and cocaine user and never had issues until I was a teen...such as osteoperosis...premature arthritis...chronic neck/ligament pain and shortage.
