Seven years ago I had bone graft done to my jaw ( using xenograft ) to prepare for an tooth implant. That never was successful because I wouldn't heal and couldn't even get up from bed. A year of subsequent testing revealed high blood calcium, elevated PTH levels and low vitamin D. After successful removal of one parathyroid by Dr. Norman's group I felt like a new person. I regained energy, enthusiasm and aches and pains disappeared. My PTH remained in the 60s and my blood calcium normal but vitamin D began to fall. I take 1000mg every few days. However, I also take a multivitamin every few days. Now PTH is back up to 117. Recently feeling fatigued, headaches, unexplained bone pain in neck area and jawline around ear and increased bifficulties breathing. What does it all mean? Am I back to square one? Is this expected in some part of the population that undergo one parathyroid removal?

Hello, guest.

It is important to speak to your physician to determine the cause of your symptoms. Your physician may recommend further tests such as blood work or imaging to determine if there is an underlying medical condition that may be causing your symptoms. They may also refer you to an endocrinologist to assess the effects of the parathyroid removal. Treatment for your symptoms may include lifestyle modifications, medications, or further surgery to correct any issues caused by the removal.

Have you got it checked in the meantime?
