I had a D and C and Novasure Abalation almost a month ago (the first follow up appt is in a few days). I read all the horror stories on abalation prior and actually cancelled the surgery the first time. My doctor who is new to me kept reassuring me this would fix my 2 week periods. I had a tubal ligation after my 2nd child 2 years ago. My insurance forces me to have the procedure done while out and in a hospital so that's what I did and was sent home the same day. I was in the ER that weekend (4 days later) due to extreme bloating like I was 8 months pregnant (I'm a size 2 so you couldn't miss the issue). It was due to the pain meds backing me up. We got that fixed in a few days and then I I actually lost 5 additional pounds then before the surgery which I have not put back on. It's almost like when I eat a regular meal, or try to, there isn't room so I've kept the new weight loss off. I wasn't really in pain at all except for the backing up part all the way to the small intestines. I had a lot of blood the first few days. After that is was super light and started wearing a panty liner. Well here is is the time of when my period is due and there's more blood then there has been each day along with slight period type cramping. I'm disapointed because I had hoped the bleeding would stop, but at the very least just be lighter DURING my period. What I was not expecting was daily bleeding - all day and night, although light, it is still there. Of course the doc didn't tell me I couldn't take baths, swim or have sex for a month after the procedure until RIGHT after the procedure was completed (he could have given me a heads up on that). I'll find out is "opinion" in a few days, but my initial thought is that he will tell me the daily bleeding will someday go away (with no known date in mind) and I will have light periods. I guess it seems at this point a waste of time and money to do the procedure that promises so much and really hasn't delivered. I would estimate hospital costs into the 10-15K range, covered by insurance, but still a waste if it doesn't work. I'm sure he will also offer the possibility of birth control pills (which I don't need since I had the tubal) or a complete hysto (which will age me). I'm 42, 2 kids, very healthy and in shape - eat right, no other medical issues at all. I only had 2 week periods after I stopped nursing my baby at 9 months (which didn't happen with the first) and both kids were c-sections. The doctor told me he believes this was due to the c-sections which is why he did a D and C prior to the abalation. No cancer found and an ultrasound was also done. I say pass on this procedure if you can have any other alternative at all. 2 weeks of bleeding is better than every single day. I still have hope this will go away, but after reading everyone else's experience, not sure if that's realistic.
