abdominal pain after abortion

Hi all. I had an abortion 10days ago. I had a surgical abortion. I too have to say that this was one of the worst experiences of my life. I never wanted to have to have an abortion. But my partner is not the ideal person to have a baby with.. and after a horrid fight, the idea of have a tie to him forever and that being a poor child with a father who from the moment he knew about him wanted him gone... well, I knew I couldn't have that.

Anyway. The pain. I will never, ever have another abortion. There is no way in hell I will experience this pain again. I am still coming to terms with having to make this decision... let alone having to deal with the physical pain.

After the procedure, I felt incredibly sick, and vomited in the recovery room, apparently due to the gas. The pain killers they gave me in the theater and afterwards, did not work. I didn't want to feel it. I wanted to be out cold. However, they don't put you out here, I only had gas and something else they injected into me.

I experienced the worst cramps I had ever had whilst in the recovery room. Apparently due to a clot... which I am hoping has passed. I was given codine which helped considerably.

But ever since, I have been bleeding, I have moments where I don't bleed much at all, and then all of the sudden I have almost a gush of bleeding. I have also been experiencing some intense cramps. These are more common in the late evenings. Though have also plagued me late afternoons. I haven't been too impressed with my Doctor of late, so I am looking for a new Doctor, which has made it difficult for me to make any appointment for me to see a Doctor about this, and as I am coming up to having to make a 2week check up I need to work out what I am going to do. I think I shall go back to my family planning clinic.

I'm really hoping that the bleeding stops soon, I am sick of being afraid that I could leak on my clothes and on chairs when I am out.

And I am sick of feeling like absolute c**p. I was never given any medication after the procedure, but I have read a lot of websites where they say to make sure your taking your perscribed medication...

I had this too today and the nurse said, if your negative, like us, and you get pregnant in the future and the baby is posotive your body will fight against the baby and the injection is to stop that! X

Unfortunately I think it is normal as I have had a similar experience.

I had a surgical abortion 10 days ago and for the first few days there was pain but it was completely manageable. Then, over the weekend I started to get agonising shooting abdominal pains. They gradually got worse and were coming in waves. I had a high fever and my whole body was shaking to compensate for the pain. I went to hospital and they put morphine in me really quickly. They did an internal examination and found that things were normal but there were signs of a bad infection. They said that its very normal to have really bad cramps. I wasn't expecting pain anything like this. Since saturday I have been on antibiotics and taking strong painkillers but I am still having really bad pains. It has stopped me from doing almost everything and i just feel so fed up and miserable. I am 21 and in the middle of a course at university so I didn't want to keep the baby but I am not going to let myself go through this pain again with another abortion.

I sympathise with everyone experiencing the same thing, it is so horrible. I would love to know of other people who are having the same problems and of any particular painkillers that work best. I have been taking a mixture of paracetemol and codeine and then ibuprofen too.

hi i also had an abortion before 2 weeks. i have also severe pain in my stomach. my doctor said it is normal it is cramps in my stomach. it takes few time to be ok.

so donot worry it takes few time to become nomal.

im concerned about myself.. i had a medical abortion in october and im still loosing a brownish red coloured bleed/discharge. it doesnt smell or anything like that but im getting sore below now too as im wearing towels all the time. i havent actually taken a test since the tablets but have been gettin the odd cramp in my tum and wondered if anyone knows if it can take this long to settle? i bled really bad for the first two weeks and was losing massive amounts of blood and clots..so much so it made me dizzy n cold and ihad to get into bed to stop the constant bleeding. i really dont feel comfy talking about this to my doctor... please can anyone help me?

hi you have very miserable condition. you need to consult ur doctor immediately. donot hesitate from ur doctor. its ur right so go to ur doctor and discuss ur problem with him.

I had this and the doctor said if I get cramps then it can be a womb infection! Get yourself to the doctor, hope things firm out ok.

I had a abortion last month march 6 after 3 days I begin to have severe diarrhea..so I went to doctor for a check up he said that it's normal and he gave me medicine to drink for 5 days..but now it's gonna be 1 month this month and still I have severe diarrhea and sometimes feels like to vomit..even when I'm sleeping at the middle of the night I would wake up just to go to bathroom..is anyone experience this after abortion?

I did experience diarrhea for about a week or two after. My doctor also said this was normal and was due to the antisthetic. Were you sedated? Was this the first time you were sedated.

I had a pill abortion just today after being 8 weeks gone... i was positive at the start after a painless shot in my backside and then the doctor sticking 4 tablets right inside my vagina... i managed to sleep for half an hour after that, but after that the pain kicked in and I still couldnt go home for another 3 hours. It still wasn't TOO bad in the hospital, felt like I needed to poo really, and I was so, so cold. Shivering like mad. But on the drive home I had to keep stopping to throw up, and the pain was unbearable.

Rushed to the toilet when I got home to sit on the loo and try poo again, that seems to REALLY comfort the pain for me, even if I can't actually poo anything. I actually just woke up now from a half hour nap on the toilet haha. Just started bleeding also which isnt great because doctor said change pads every half hour.... brilliant. No sleep for me tonight then. Also parts of my body ache... if I bite my lip really gently it aches, and if i just wipe the end of my nose that too.... my boobs are also killing me. Thats all I can contribute for now anyway, its only been 5 hours since the pills were inserted.

If given the option again I would definitely go for surgery, even if you do have to wait a few days for it. But then the pill is DEFINITELY a great way to teach you a lesson... as my boyfriend watched me squirming in agony we both agreed "NEVER again".

I had the same happen to me in 2009. Go to the ER right this second. They need to do an emergency DNC. I'm not trying to scare anyone. My doctor told me I was fine and all that BS, then i was rushed back in when I was having extream pain, yet again, found out that not all the blood left the body and is rotting inside, which is very dangerous. I ended up in the hospital for two weeks after that. GO IN. this happens to about 1% of women after an AB.

hi i had an abortion six weeks ago had same injection as you ,i then had an infection in my womb, had to go back to hospital a week later more pain and clots ,a week later am still in pain back to hospital again for them to tell me it was the remainings of the baby?,a had 2 lots of antibiotics a week later still in pain and bleeding its been 6 weeks now and i am still not wright goin back to the hospital again to see what they can do this time ,i will neva eva do this again in my life

I was 11 weeks along when i found out my babies were stopped growings by 8w. So i had to have an abortion. The doc inserted 4 tablets of pills into my vagina. I was told to stay and being monitored in hospital. After 1 hour or ao, i started feeling some cramps lightly and shivering. It was unbearable, felt very very cold and cant control my muscles at all. It lasted like 1 hour. 5 hours or so after the pills insertion, i started bleeding slightly, mostly water like liquid and brown color, smell bad. Later i went to the toilet and i can hear i passed some massive blood clods. Did a US after and foundsome residue blood clods still remain. Doc put another 2 pills into me and 2hrs later i passed more bloods and clods. Then i was being sent home with antibiotics precriptions and painkille for next 6 days
