It's definitely kidney stones in my case. I've had this pain a couple times a year for the past 13 years. I had an MRI and they found stones in one and calcifications of the kidney itself on the other side. During an "episode" the pain is definitely the worst right as I'm almost done emptying my bladder, to the point where I think I'm going to have to be hospitalized. But the severe pain goes away pretty quickly, with just a little uncomfortableness for the rest of the day.

One minute I can reach up to a tall shelf, the next minute I'm walking like the hunchback of notre dame, then I pee a couple of times and it all goes away. I'd say it's possible that it's a hernia, but hernia pain doesn't just go away after you urinate. Ladies, my suggestion is that you stop taking birth control pills if you are...they make the occurrence of kidney stones exponentially worse, especially if you are prone to them. No one ever told me this and I suffered for years and years just thinking I was messed up somehow and I had to live with it. I also had a problem when i ate really salty meats, like beef jerky, and drinking heavy beers. The next morning would be hell.

I've been getting this pain since I was a little kid. I tried explaining it to doctors and urologists and they have no clue what I'm talking about. It's like a burning, sharp pain in my penis and lower abdomen.

I am experiencing this as well. Today was my first time in about a year and a half. I recently switched to a new calcium complete vitamin, I am wondering if this is the reason. It seems like there is almost a tightening spasm of some chord connecting my belly button to my groin area. The pain just started this morning when I was in classes and has become less over the day, but the most painful is when urinating .. this leads me to believe that it is some what either a urethra spasm, a kidney stone, or a upper bladder spasm. I call it a spasm because of the unusual tightness felt in the abdomen, which all of us seem to go for the fetal position for relief. Hope this sheds some light on the situation.

Here is my hypothesis on this, which I also experience on occasion. The two arteries that run through the umbilical cord and into the fetus become ligaments that attach to the bladder after birth. I'm thinking that in some people, these ligaments are either shorter than normal or attach in such a way to shorten the ligamants more than normal. When something occurs to tighten the abdominal muscles more than normal (certain types of exercise/activity) or distend the stomach (gas/bloating) or even something that causes abdominal/bladder spasms, the ligaments tighten even more than normal. When the person then straightens up or stretches the abdominal muscles, the bladder is physically pulled upward slightly, which in turns pulls on the urethra. This causes the pain felt in the penis. Conversely, the pulling at the navel results in the pain in that area. What do you think?

I get this too. I find when its after I've been doing alot of abdominal straining like hard outdoor jobs, and when I've not drunk alot.
I don't know if the bladder shrinks when you're dehydrated and thats why it feels tight when you pee.

I got one about 40 minutes ago. I'd spent all morning painting a fence, using a spray. So I was doing a lot of bending and sitting in hunched positions. Between 6am and 12.30 pm I'd only had 2 drinks. This was a similar situation as lasttime I had one of these belly pains last June.
I think you just need to drink more water.

All I can say is, as soon as you get a hint of a pain, take 2 strong pain killers, and then it won't come back. I do that and it goes away for the rest mof the day, and sometimes doesn't comeback for months.

People that say its kidney stones aren't that crazy. I've got kidney stones as well, and when they start moving, I get pains in my back and then sometimes I get pains behind my belly button and at the base of my penis when I pee at the sametime.

20 year old male. (also found this on google)
i get this pain whenever i bend back or stretch, also if my stomach is distended. i can usually make it go away by lying down, and something great for the pain is a heat blanket or warm laptop (haha) right where the pain is on your abdomen.

i'm going to have to agree with everyone who said it was dehydration, but i think there might be more to it, also.
i'm not an active person at all, really, and i never stretch; but when i do stretch my stomach, i get that pain. maybe it has something to do with not stretching the abdomen enough? i think it hurts in the tip of the penis because everything is connected.

any more insight?

20 year old male here and thought I would share my experience with this as maybe it will help.

I have been experiencing this sensation maybe 5-7 times a year for the past few years. I don't think it has to do with extended physical activity as I am a college athlete (cross-country & track) and am doing physical activity daily.

I have the same symptoms, though...sometimes it starts while peeing, but today I just noticed it after I was about to get up from the computer after getting back from an easy pick-up basketball game. I also experienced the pain while peeing that most of you mentioned, but I really hope it's not a kidney stone or something. Usually, I wait a few hours and it's gone...but I have to be in the fetal position to feel totally "normal"/pain-free.

I'm as clueless as any of you as to what this is, but I have noticed that the last two times it has happened to me is after I have woke up 2 days prior, really early in the morning, having to pee really bad cause I had held it so long. Not sure if there is any connection there, as I don't think that has happened the other times. I WISH SOMEBODY COULD FIND A WAY TO "CURE" THIS AS I'M EXPERIENCING IT RIGHT NOW AND IT'S HORRIBLE!

I have been experiencing this 3-4 times a year since I was 17. The hypothesis that this has to do with the tightening of already shortened umbilical ligaments seems dead on because that is exactly how it feels and seems to be the case with how everyone else is describing it. Too bad that most doctors don't have a clue about this. You'd think they would understand anatomy a little better.

This seems to be in line with what's happening to me. I have noticed that it happens more often when I drink nothing but coffee for a day. I know that coffee passes through the system fast and doesn't really give you the water you need. So maybe... still, it hurts like hell and when someone asks what's wrong, it's har to explain without sounding like you have a VD.

I am a 37 yo female and I get this several times a year. My brother is the only other person that has known what I am talking about when I 've complained about this. After reading the other responses, I do think it has something to do with dehydration. It seems to happen after I've had coffee or if I drank alcohol the night before. This morning both were the case.
I wanted to mention that I think the worse thing you can do is curl up in the fetal position. That seems to strengthen the pull and ultimately cause more pain when you eventually try to straighten up. Right away I try to slowly stretch back (really slowly as it is very painful) and rub around my belly button at the same time. Then I just try to relax and lay on my back for awhile. This seems to get things back to normal quicker.
Good luck everybody. I feel your pain!!!!

I have had this pain I best describe as if someone is pulling my belly button out and the tip of my penis and twisting them together. I have now been able to trigger what causes it and the fix. You ready for the answer....... First I believe it is caused from straining either a ligament or muscle from the middle of the belly to the penis. If you dont exercise and sit hunched over all day and then stretch real hard or begin exercising too hard you can cause part the pulling of the ligament or muscle and not having a full bladder which means you are dehydrated will spasm and a stomach cramp or bladder cramp insues. So getting in a fetal position allows the ligament to relax and naturally stretch back out and then drinking water will help, but if you drink a soda real fast it fills your bladder and you are good to go!!
