Ditto what he said. I have gone through the same thing with my appendix and it is very different than this. I get these pains about 2 times a year and they are excruciating.

23 year old male and i have slightly different symptoms. It's a pain that starts right below my navel, at the point where the hair begins to grow, but then travels to my anus. It's like a rod going through my pelvis. It always begins in the belly button though. Probably had this going on now about for about two years and yesterday it did something really strange. It started in the navel, like normal, and then traveled down the left side of my penis. Hence why I've really fired up my search to find answers

If you don't want surgery do try anti-spasmodic drugs. I have had 2 courses of Mebeverine and my symptoms have all but cleared up!

I have had the same issues since I was a child. I'm 25 now and I still get episodes a few times a year. A sharp pain starting under my belly button and radiating down through my pelvis/penis. It hurts like hell to stand and all I can do is curl up in a ball. It literally feels like a tight cord inside of me that is a max tension and I dare not stretch it. WTF? It eventually goes away, but it can be debilitating/immobilizing. If there are this many men posting with the same or similar symptoms there has to be some sort of named condition or diagnosis. Does anyone have a concrete answer??

Here's the solution when this happens - dip two q-tips in rubbing alcohol and rub the wet tips inside of your belly button. Do this several times as to get plenty of alcohol in your BB and rub the q-tips vigorously to remove any debris on your BB. Doing this should alleviate the pain within 15 minutes.
Do this every few weeks and your pain should not come back.
Hope this helps!

If the above post is correct, then it may lead me to the following. Thorough cleaning of the umbilicus (belly button) could be clearing out debris buildup that would welcome a bacterial infection. If this bacterial infection persists it may possibly infect the allantoic duct. The allantois is used for liquid excrement during embryonic development and attaches the bladder to the umbilicus. The allantois does not always regress after full development.
Possibly if males whose allantois did not regress and is still connected to both umbilicus and bladder, obtains an infection starting in the umbilicus could possibly infect the currently vestigial allantois. If the allantois becomes infected, this may be the pain which is felt (being a duct traveling the same path as the described pain).
An infected duct would become inflamed and engorged. This would feel much like a severe bladder infection. Passing this infection would require it to be expelled from the body through the penis. Which may explain the progression and pathway of the symptoms. Starting from the umbilicus, then a day or so later progressing to the base of the penis, then right before all the symptoms dissipate the last pain is mainly felt in the penis.
The alcohol is mainly a preventative step. An anti-biotic may be able to solve this (if my hypothesis is correct), because if the allantois is still present then the umbilical veins and arteries have kept it alive, so an anti-botic may be able to reach the allantois through the umbilical arteries.
There could be various reasons why any of these pains occur. If bacterial growth can continue into the allantois from the umbilicus then, preventive measures would be the best way to treat this. However, if it is bacterial "leakage" then another problem could possibly occur. The gastro-intestinal (GI) tract is full of bacteria; approximately 10 times the amount of human cells, so around 100 trillion bacteria. If there is a leakage gap between the portion of the intestine that made up the umbilical cord (in charge of solid waste) and the allantoic duct of the umbilical cord (in charge of liquid waste) then the bacterial infection may be coming from inside the GI tract.
If there are people who would like to test this, please list the frequency this problem occurred in the past, what preventive measure you are currently using to treat this, how long you have been using this preventive method, and when the last time you had this pain after starting this preventive measure. Please, if you contribute to this impromptu study, wait until you cycle through a regular period when you would normally have this type of pain (one or two cycles) before you post about your preventive steps taken to alleviate and report if the problem persists throughout one or two cycles.
If this hypothesis is correct I would suspect that women would also have this problem. But, we will take this one step at a time. Thank you in advance if you participate.

Although I am a girl of 14 i have been having these same symptons. I do remeber having slight past issues like this but today has been really bad. When I walk I dont feel much pain but when i sit in certain positions it really hurts. I figured i'd just try sleep it off and if problem still occurs i'd visit the doctor but is there anything i could do to minimize the pain?

CAUSE OF PAIN IS AT BOTTOM OF THIS RESPONSE: This happens to me a couple times a year, painful string from bladder to tip of the penis. Last year I had 3 "episodes", all when I was working (i'm a landscaper) on 95+ degree days and sweating like a maniac. I always drink a ton of water but on these particular days it was impossible to take it in faster than I was losing it without risking electrolyte imbalance. One of the days we were trimming shrubs in the direct sun and 2 of my workers started throwing up from heat stroke.
I've had my first episodes of 2013 this week because I've been smoking about 1-2g of marijuana everyday for 10 years, and just quit cold turkey. It's hard to get to sleep, and when I do I wake up hours later DRENCHED in cold sweat, even during the day my whole body including hands and feet are sweating even though it's the winter and I'm not doing anything strenuous. So there you have it... Dehydration and sweating too much (at least in my mind), is 100% the root of the discomfort/pain especially if you only get this randomly and it's not a hernia or stones. Drink water and take some ibuprofen, you'll live to see another day.

i am 16 and experiencing this same thing. At times it is terrible but at others its bareable. i've usually been ableto get it away by arcing my back to make it hurts (IT HURTS EXTREMELY BAD!!!!) but i guess it "stretches" it out or something. Also, drink a lot of water and try to keep moving, inactivity only makes it worse. I hope we will find a cure!!!

We need to start gettings more information on people posting here. Include your age, race, gender, dietary habits, and any siblings with the same issues. For example I'm a 28 year old caucasian female, no children, I have a twin sister and we're both vegetarians for the last decade. I don't drink, smoke, consume caffeien or take any regular medications. Over all, healthy. Very active. I find this happens to me if I don't urinate in a timely fashion or if I exercise my abdomnal muscles heavily. Let's get some more clear info on this...maybe we'll be lucky and a medical student will find this and make it a project...
