Omg... this is exactly the sh*t I have been suffering for about 10 years now... not a single doctor knows what to tell me. It lasts for many hours and literally neutralises me from any activity. Urinating is living hell, and sometimes I even hold up the pee for fear of pain. Exercises sometimes are the cause, in my case.

I think our problem needs to be related to a ligament called the "Urachus". The ligament starts at the belly button and goes through the bladder. It really fits in the description to those of you who say that the pain is like someone pulling a chord. In a fetus, it's something like a nerve connecting the umbilical chord to our bladder. I suspect it has to do with it being strained or injured. Good news is that this ligament has no known function whatsoever, and there are people that have had surgeries involving its removal, although not because of our problem, which is mysterious and invisible at best. I am going to talk about this with an urologist and a surgeon, see what happens. All of you should do this too.

Same exact thing... Since I was like 12 years old, it was always happening after long soccer matches ( like all day of playing ). Then every time after shoveling the snow and working in the yard. After shoveling the snow or yard work I sat and rested for about 30 minutes and when I was trying to get up - BOOM, its like the string connecting belly button and the end of my penis got shorter and when I'm getting up I'm streaching it ( that's how I imagine what is happening when I feel the pain ).
I went to a doctor and he said he is seeing a slight hernia. I had the surgery... freaking painfull, with long healing period ( not mentioning $10,000 spent ). It's 2 years after that... finished shoveling the snow yesterday... I still can feel that damn pain... what the heck is it ? I drink coffe everyday, but after that I do dring a lot of water... I don't think that's that. I drink alcohol on weekends ( whiskey ) - but I don't think that's it, because I was not drinking when I was 12... I also think I may have something to do with my body reacting to different temperatures ? Shoveling the snow in winter and yard work in heat ? I'm trying to find a solution as the ultrasound and CT scan didn't show anything...
Touching the inside of my belly button doesn't help ( yes, my wife also thought that is funny :) Jesus.... )
Now interesting thing... when it really hurts and as always I'm going into fetal position... it ONLY helps when I'm laying on my right side... on left side it can get even worst... ALWAYS ( I'm 34 so do the math... it happened to me MANY times... so annoying ).
I kinda lost hope to hear a correct diagnosis...

Ok people, I truly hope all may read this. I am a male, 19 years old and not from the U.S, and I have suffered from this horrible pain since I was at least 10.I get them like once a moth but lately it has worsened. I have an inny belly button and I do get the excruciating and burning pain when I urinate every time I have an "episode". To tell you a bit of my medical history, I have seen like 9 doctors of different fields, I have gotten 2 MRI's(at least), Xrays, 2 Ultrasounds, Colonoscopy, and more. I've had 2 surgeries also. Episodes last at least 4 hours, a good sleep is the best temporal cure. Here is what I have to say:
During my first surgery, the surgeon said I have some sort of HERNIA trapped in my UMBILICUS. I got better for at least 7 months!! I read that others who got a hernia removed got better permanently but others had the pain again after a while, like me. These hernias are usually really really SMALL, and are not found through xray tests. So, I recently met with a doctor whose field is Anesthesiology and Pain Management. These guys have a clear understanding of how nerves work in relation with pain. It seems that there are only two reason people may suffer from this. Forget about kidney stones, the urachus and other stuff you thought about.
1) A micro hernia as I said earlier trapped in the umbilicus and somehow hurting the nerve.
2 A NEUROMA!! This almost exclusivelt happens AFTER a surgery. For the ones who have gotten hernias removed and still got the pain... this is the reason right here.
During a surgery, nerves are usually cut if part of a procedure, but they are supposed to reatachh and heal normally. But some people develop NEUROMAS, which is like a REALLY SMALL lesson or hernia on the nerve where it was cut. This sends electric shocks of pain to the brain and thus what we perceive. The nerve that happens to be right there has different "branches" going down the penis and such. It hurts when we urinate because when we do, an involuntary muscular action helps push the urine out, and this hurts the nerve if it has a neuroma, this makes the sensation to intesify and burn. Any doctors reading this please comment and correct me or anything, Im just trying to find answers and what this doctor explained to me really makes sense. A neuroma y removed via surgery, and usualy part of the nerve is extracted and "buried" (I dont know how to explain that) so that a new neuroma is not formed.
TALK ABOUT THE HERNIA THING TO YOUR DOCTORS!!! If you already had it removed and still have the pain... bring the NEUROMA SUBJECT UP!! Fight for your well being people! This thing is not for life!! Or at least I hope so...
All the best.

I forgot to mention that I also look like the hunchback of Notre Dame when I get the pain... we can't get upright because the position pushes the nerve or hernia and hurts it. Excuse my spelling mistakes.

I have this feeling too (or the equivalent since I female.) I have some burning in or stabbing in the abdomen and even sometimes in my back, but mostly I have pulling pain from my belly button to my lower vagina area.
I had this pain, but worse with painful urination about two years ago. I had CT scans, urine tests and sonograms. The tests did show that I had uterine fibroids so I had surgery. At the same time I lost about 15 pounds. Once I was healed, I felt completely better.
Now I have gained back 10 or 15 pounds, not sure if it's related, but the pain is back, although not as severely. I am making an appointment to see a GI specialist and I am changing a bunch of stuff in my diet (including trying gluten-free living for a few weeks.)
I will post back here if I learn what's causing this pain for me. I will watch to see if you post any updates too.
