I have had the same result!! I've gained twenty lbs since my abortion in December of last year and it won't budge despite changing my diet from junk to practically paleo. So frustrating!!

I have since done some work on my own. Bought a saliva hormone test and it showed years of significant adrenal fatigue and virtually zero (not enough to register on the test) DHEA in my body. So my hormones are messed up. Started seeing a naturalist & hollistic dr and working on my adrenals i have dropped 15 of the almost 60 ive put on. My periods finally are regulating too. I still have a long way to go but its amazing what you find when to take control. I currently have to force myself to eat as i have no appetite at all but i am following the GAPS diet so what i am eating is basically green veggies & lean meat so not many calories either. Any other person would weigh 80lbs by now but even working w a personal trainer (occassionally as adrenal fatigue cannot be pushed fast) and do small 5lb weight workouts i hover at 145lbs. (Remember i weighed 112 on the day of my procedure) but im starting to FEEL better. Not so huge not so sluggish and im happy i didnt take the drs word for it that nothing was wrong.

I weighted 117-120 before my pregnacy. I aborted at 7 weeks and imediatly started the depo shot birth control. In24 weeks I've gain over 18-20 lbs. For me this is unheard of. I've always been athletic and small. I hate this weight gain and it doesn't really help with my self image since the procedure.

That is encouraging as I've gained about 10kg in the 2 years after my abortion and have recently started shiatsu, sugar-free eating and a couple other things to help combact this weight gain and hormone issue.

Wow. I am so glad I found this thread. I have been struggling for YEARS. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out where or how I went so wrong. I put on 50 pounds after my TOP in 2009. The first 20-30 was quick, the remainder came over the past 5-6 years. But I never associated the termination with the weight gain, because it seemed counter-intuitive.

I eat well (low-moderate calorie intake, almost no processed foods, low sugar, and lots veggies) and work out several times a week, in addition to clocking 10-20K steps a day. I have tried so many diets and exercise plans over the past few years, and nothing has worked past 2-5 pounds, which I usually gain back within a few months.

I wonder if there isn't more information because many of us don't talk about it openly (maybe even with our doctors). I also often wonder if perhaps my body never got the message that I'm not pregnant anymore, and is mixing up signals because of it.

I am in a healthy relationship now, and trying to get pregnant, and I worry about the health implications for baby (and I) if I conceive while I'm so overweight, but a strange part of me wonders if carrying to term, and completing the process won't somehow help my body sort out these issues? Maybe I'm crazy... but it's the only feeling of hope I've had in a long time...

I wish you all the best. I will try to keep up with this board and maybe even have a real talk with my GYN about the issue...

I had an abortion 2 years ago and have been struggling with my weight also, except I weigh 98 lbs and I'm really skinny. I've been trying to gain weight but no matter what I can't I also get my period about every 4-5 months which I find strange.

I'm with you on believeing that carrying a baby to term might be the only solution since it would be then that we get to brest feed and release the hormone the shrinks our uterus. When I meet my boyfriend I weighed 125lb we have been together 2 years and have had two accidental pregnancies. I now weight 140. I'm only 5'2. Also I have still been growing, since I was only 19 when we met. I had the abortions at 20 and 21. I'm only interested in losing 10 lbs.. Currently getting into a diet. Before I only had to work out to stay fit. I'll get back to everyone on how goes. In the mornings still feel my uterus as if it's pregnant. Scares me.

I think for some women depending on genetics it is normal to gain weight. I had an abortion a long time ago (next month it'll be four years) and I was only 6 weeks along. Before the procedure my weight varied from 110-120 lbs. I am 5'4" (22 years old right now, 18 at the time of the procedure) and I used to never exercise other than walking and I ate very unhealthy but I stayed thin. After the abortion I gained weight steadily until 7 or 8 months later I had gone up to 160 pounds and during this time I exercised lightly daily and ate somewhat healthier. Eventually I gave up and went back to my old eating and exercise habits which lead me to weigh 175 pounds. Now I eat a salad with grilled chicken for atleast one meal a day, plenty of raw veggies and fruits, maybe two or three times a week I will have dessert or something else unhealthy. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week (over an hour of cardio each time and then half an hour with weights) and usually burn 600 calories each time on cardio alone. Even though I am doing all this, I stay between 145-150 lbs and 145 pounds is considered overweight for my height. Looking at me though, no one believes I weigh more than 130 or 135. My PBF is in the mid to high 30's so I should look like I weigh a lot more, but apparently I look good. I think extra weight, and extra fat just comes with getting pregnant at all for some women, regardless of if you bear a child or not.
