I am 14 years old and I have never had a pelvic exam to date. I'm not looking forward to it, but I DO understand that it is necessary to get checked out. I know that you are supposed to tell your Ob/Gyn if your are sexually active. I am NOT sexually active-at least not with another person. What I want to know is if you are supposed to tell your doctor that you masturbate, or if you can keep that private. I wouldn't worry about it so much if it were only my fingers, but it's not always only my fingers and I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I also want to know how much of the exam is kept from your parents. I understand the need to tell your parents if there is something wrong, but in the event that everything is normal, what can they tell your parents? I don't want my mother to know that I masturbate, and I also don't want her to be told if my hymen is broken or not. I've heard that they can't tell your parents even if you say you're having sex, but does the same apply to masturbation?

I understand not looking forward to it but you do need to make sure that you fully disclose everything to your doctor. Due to confidentiality though, your doctor is not supposed to tell your parents anything that isn't medically necessary so the doctor would have virtually no reason to tell your parents that you masturbate or that your hymen is broken or anything like that. I would just be honest with your doctor and things should be fine. Does that make sense?
