I was just prescribed the antibiotic amoxicillin. I have not begun taking it yet b/c I am curious to if it will effect my birth control if I had unprotected sex 5 days ago. Should I wait until I get my period to start my antibiotic? Or does it matter since the unprotected sex was before I have taken the antibiotic?

However, ovulation could even occur with antibiotics like penicilin and tetracycline.
Some women have bigger chances of having ovulation while taking bc pills and antibiotics especially if they have just started taking the pills, if they are on a low dose bc pills and these women should use back up method while undergoing antibiotic treatment.
I mean, how bad can it be?...it's like a weak of having to use a condom.
You can start with the treatment right away since sperm lives up to 5 days, so even if you did ovulate, you are no longer at risk since your last intercourse was 5 (or more) days ago.
