I have also had the same issues with adderall but I have been Dx with autoimmune since childhood. I am also an RT and all the posts from ppl educated in the medical field are greatly appreciated. Helps people understand and be able to apply it personally rather than self diagnose from the internet. Esp when dealing with an amphetamines. I have had severe flare ups & every issue that ppl on here have but have been dx w a mold allergy after a year of testing. My house had flood damage and black mold destroyed house causing front half of entire house to be demolished and rebuilt. since replacing everything even moldy AC ducts, Symptoms have all but gone except psoriatic arthritis which was emerging a month prior to adderall rx at age 35 post delivery of child & rebounded from being immunosupressed, was the theory according to GP lol. (But it all is theoretical amd not much evidence based to go on yet) This was why GP started on adderall. So while not the cause for me personally, it def can cause these problems in ppl or exacerbate these issues. Eat, Sleep, suppliments, & Destress can manage side effects of the hormone fluxuations from cortisole and dopamine level depletion as a result of adderall. So those who are currently trying to rule out adderall toxicity, Mold or allergen may be a factor & warrant further testing with an allergist. So before blaming adderall keep working to find a way to manage or fix before your taken off a beneficial therapy that had it not been for adderall, my son would not have a mom that is able to play & take care of him & function. No child should see a parent hurting or sick. if adderall isnt abused and causing those issues its like any medication and needs to be adjusted. liver fuction metabolism etc are all factors, too. Lowing the dose may be the key & a simple fix. Taking one compound and then another for a side effect then another for that side effect and risk that medication interacting with the adderall and its an endless cycle...

cont...just a thought and in no way trying to say that anyones posts are not true or invalid. Each person is different when comes to how our bodies work amd process things. I am in the evidence based world but doesnt mean it isnt true, you know your body best & should always push when no one listens and second opinions can be lifesaving. There is a reason one person is not responsible for an individual but a health care team! Also just a note: I have had issues with the fillers in the generics that Is believed was causing an allergic response and have found one that I have not had any further problems with but started taking after Mold removal so unclear if related or coincidence. But worth a try and pain in butt & months of trying each one at diff pharmacies to find in stock but 2 years of it all was worth getting me to where i am now & am so happy to finally be happy & feeling normal and functioning normaly again. So keep trying and dont give up no matter how many years it takes!! I do advise non medical personnel to educate yourselves first before googling! Will go a long way to help you before being driven insane googling ppls opinions of how the body and brain process hormones and chemicals, while amusing, are very misleading & should not be posted unless their name is followed by credentials & even then should always be verified either by evidence based or by your healthcare team, the best you can anyways! Good luck!

I’ve done nothing but search the internet as to why I have hashimoto thyroid disease and yes it’s obvious it’s a sideaffect from the medacation but they don’t tell you they just don’t want you to disrupt the rest of the class sad but true

Are you or have you ever been on birth control? Of any type?

I’ve sworn there’s a connection between Adderall and other health issues. A few family members were diagnosed with ADD. After several years of taking Adderall they’d been diagnosed with health issues that dont run in the family. One diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, another diagnosed with AS, another alopecia and psoriasis.

Hi everyone. I read the whole thread, and have never posted on a forum before, but felt the need to contribute my share to say that YES – I have no doubt Adderall can trigger autoimmune conditions. I'm a grad student from Europe living in California and English is my second language, so sorry for any grammar error.

I'm a 30-year-old extremely healthy female, slim, exercise, eat well. Six years ago took Ritalin for 1.5 years to help finish my degree, and I developed a skin autoimmune condition (LS). I believe it has to do with the stress stimulants puts on the body, the metabolites of the substance and of dopamine, and your ability to detox (that varies depending on your genetics). At the time (I was 25y/o) I found out by myself that taking high doses of Vitamin C (6-8 grams a day) would stop my pain, which meant inflammation was reducing. I told this to my gynecologist and she looked at me as if I was completely crazy. I had to do a biopsy, was told it was incurable, but refused to use clobetasol and immune suppressant creams due to side effects.

I went off Ritalin at the time and got 100% better. But I only learned of the possible link when I began studying Functional Medicine a few years ago, and learned the role of inflammation, nutrients, environmental toxins, etc, on health and autoimmunity.

Anyhow, I had no symptoms at all. Until this month...

I started taking Adderall (15mg IR, twice a day) last month out of desperation to help me focus and finish my Ph.D. dissertation, and symptoms started again. I can't wait to finish writing so I can stop taking it, because unfortunately, it can be toxic, at least for sensitive people. If you have any auto-immune condition I URGE YOU to consult with a doctor that also works with the Functional Medicine approach and you must be willing to get off stimulants, change your diet, and find out the root cause of your "attention deficit." You will need to detox (it can be toxic mold as mentioned in previous posts, heavy metals, or just the drugs) find out what are the triggers for you, find out about possible nutrient deficiencies, etc.

I don't eat gluten or sugar, eat 100% organic, take a zillion good supplements, etc. Taking Adderall for only one month I notice: change in body and urine odor, dry skin, crazy thirst, higher BP and HR, vision got WAY worst (like visual snow, trouble reading), AND my autoimmune condition symptoms are back. I'm not super worried because I know I can fix it all fast. But one word: SCARY. Children should not be on this sh**, period. I see it as a hack/tool to help with daunting tasks (like cramming for an exam or a paper), but not for long time use. Just for the note I also, unfortunately, had skin reactions with a month-long use of modafinil and stopped it immediately, obviously. Once I graduate next month I plan on going extremely healthy and maybe only taking the rest of my Adderall stash 'recreationally', like to read a whole book on a Sunday morning, once a month, something like this. (Along with tons of anti-oxidants, detox, healthy eating). It's super cool to get laser sharp focus and a nice dopamine rush, who doesn't like it? So use it sporadically if you may.

In my opinion:
1. People must be aware of the link between prescription stimulants and autoimmunity.
2 If you or a loved one have an autoimmune condition you MUST investigate the ROOT cause of it, with a functional medicine practitioner preferably, and take agency over your health: do your research.
3. What you can do right now is take anti-inflammatory supplements, lots of Vitamin C (the pure tablets, NOT that orange artificially sweetened powder), turmeric, omega-3 oil, etc.
4. Cut ALL sugar, gluten, artificial ingredients, industrialized food, non-organic food.
5. Excercise, yoga, breathing, meditation to restore balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems.
6. Plan to stop/taper off Adderall. You can substitute it with a bunch of natural adaptogens and other stuff that helps.
7. If you feel tired all the time and already got a thyroid panel and your doc said it is "normal" and you still feel bad, then it is probably not ok! It's not ok to have even a low quantity of thyroid antibodies - it is not ok to have your body attacking its healthy tissues, that's a symptom of something else!

Please reply if you want to discuss or add or have questions, want references etc – I love talking about this.
Best wishes and love to you all!!! Question conventional medicine, question Big-Pharma and all authority

I have been on prescription meds for ADHD most of my life but the last 10 years I have been on Adderall. I am now 45 years old and this last year I have been having symptoms such has swollen hands achy joints tingling and numbness in my hands. I can not tolerate the cold weather like before. I have had strange issues with my tounge and my mouth that just seems to never go away. I've had blood work that's abnormal in many different areas. Most of my symptoms have been text book symptoms of lupus or lime disease. It really has been one thing after another. And I swear it's the Adderall. I even went as far as not taking my Adderall for a week to see if I felt any better and I did! My mouth issues were almost resolved for the first time in almost a year. My back pain and swollen hands and joints as well as numbness and severe sensitive to cold was almost gone completely. But I mental felt awful because I have never went that long without my med for ADHD. And when I called my doctor he said that Adderall would not cause all my symptoms. I knew he was wrong. I know my body. But because I felt mentally blah. And I could barley make it through my day I just accepted his answer and began taking my Adderall again. And almost immediately my mouth got worse and with in the next couple of days all my pain and weird symptoms were back and have been ever sense. I just try to deal with them now. My reasoning is I honestly can't maintain my vigorous work schedule and daily responsibility without my medicine. It's awful. And my doctor makes me feel like I'm complaining and just won't hear me out. So I gave up for now

Hahaha. I love this comment.
Have been dealing wit severe sinus infections which have gotten worse for the past 10 months so bad that my eyes are red and puffy, loss of smell, can’t think straight lit fatigued all the damn time. Have noticed it does get worse when i take adderall n do think it has smthing to do wit it.
But after research highly feel mold goes into it. 5 months everyday all day throughly cleaning, took old bed out cuz noticed mold.
Have been on and on about the mold when talking to ppl. Like feel like you could make a horror movie.
“Rise of the mold”- “serial killers and clowns aren’t the ONLY thing lurking behind your shower curtains”
Have stated before and will again, I feel like a majority of the worlds issues are bc of mold. Something bad happens- “it’s prolly the mold”
Well rlly think worlds probs come down to the mold and the roaches. They’re both equally terrible things and can hardly think of anything worse.

But yeah.
It’s prolly the mold
