I had an anterior cervical discetomy on November 15, 2011. I have been through hell since. i am NOT on disability or Workman's Compensation. In fact, i am off work without pay. It has been 8 weeks and the surgeon stated that I have another small buldging disc above teh fusion that she did not see prior to surgery. i just went for a steroid injection today and I am in extreme pain. She stated that if teh injectuon did not work then i would hav eto have another fusion. I am miserable. i go from teh bed to the couch and teh coudh to the bed. that is the extent of my range of motion since the surgery. I have become depressed and have anxiety attacks now. I am just BEGGING For relief. i wish, at this point, that they would just go ahead with another fusion so that I can recover and get back to work. i have no benefits, no disability of any kind and my husband was laid off. i NEED To get better. Just at a loss for words.

I am scheduled to have anterior cervical discectomy with fusion at c5-c6 for ruptured disc with right sided radiculopathy (due to auto accident not DDD) and I am wondering if anyone else has had this surgery and is glad that they did. I have been in constant pain for 6 months (right side of neck, right upper back, right shoulder, right arm, right hand and lower right side of face dull ache, constant burning, intermitant pins/needles), also some right arm weakness. I have has physical therapy, cervical traction, medications, 2 cervical epidural steroid injections and I still hurt. However, after reading what a lot of people have posted about this surgery I am thinking of cancelling it because I am afraid that I will be in even worse condition after the surgery. I would like to hear of some people that had this surgery with positive results, if there are any. Thanks

I had C5-6 and 6-7 done at the same time in March of last year. Discectomy, fusion with cadaver bone, screws and plating. No collar. Pain only lasted a couple of days after surgery. Only Aleve for slight pain at night. Physical therapy then back to work within 6 weeks as a home health therapist. Doing great until I got in a car accident. Hardware is intact but I'm back in physical therapy. Expecting a full recovery. Yoga helped with the physical therapy. Getting off pain meds ASAP makes a huge difference.

hello, i'm Nina from pa. I just seen my neurologist and i will be scheduled on april 10,2012 to have anterior cervical decompression and instrumented fusion done for disc c5-6c6-7. I was in a car accident in dec 2010. i went to chiropractor, message physical theraphy, pain management. I received two injections. the first one didn't work the second worked for 2 months. i had bad leg spasms. i had to go to the hospital and that was the end of that. I suffer pain between my shoulder blades, shoulders, arms, down to my thumb and into my fingers, numbness and tingling. the pain is just awful. I pray that surgery works for me. I see a pain mangement. last week was the first time i have ever asked for pain medicine usually i just take one muscle relaxer at night for fear of getting addicted. my pain management dr really didn't want to give me anything for pain. i understand people abuse the right to have pain medicine but come on .

Really so only people on comp and disability don't get better. That is a generalization on your part and I am very offended by this. I was in a car accident ruptured c5 c6 had surgery two years after 4 months after surgery better. But still have pain. I figure it will be better after another month of pt but will never be 100 percent. Yes I am collecting disability and that is not the reason I am having it is because of thaccident that I am having pain. The problem is pain is subjective and medical science hasn't figured out how to measure it.

It took me going to three doctors befor they found the rupture.

I had a C5-6 fusion back in 1980, after suffering terribly from neck pain and the other symptoms of a herniated disc. Although the recovery was somewhat long, the results were EXCELLENT! If you have a reputable neursurgeon working on you, you will be almost 100% after the period of recovery. I have been pain-free for 32 years now, and the fusion did not interfere with normal everyday activity in any way. Also, I am a smoker(not helpful, I know)! Good luck to anyone scheduled to have this surgery!

I am having C6 ACDF in two weeks with possible corepectomy if they can't get the extrusion from behind the body of C6. I am scared too, I should not have watched the surgeries on youtube, but I'm going to do it. It has been 6 months and not getting any better. I don't want nerve damage to become permanent. I hate the feeling of the pressure in my neck and the gushy sounds when I turn my neck.

I had C4 C5 C5 C6 done at the oklahoma spine hospital by Dr Remedino. Surgery went great, had some post op issues that landed me back in for a second surgery 2 days later. I'm having a lot of pain trying to sleep and when I yawn. Does anyone else have these issues? I've been off work for 16 weeks and I'm fixing to go back. Mine is a W/C case. Didn't know if this thread was still alive or not????
