I have similar symptoms. I had my GB out in July 2011 (currently Jan 2012). My biggest issue is dull pain in my right side just under rib cage when standing up or walking. When laying down it subsides. If I'm on my feet for more than 10 or 15 minutes I start getting bloated along with the pain. When I sit down the pain gradually leaves but bloating subsides slower. Laying down is best. Bowel movements are normal & Dr. did Liver Enzymes test which came back normal. It feels like maybe scar tissue inside and when I stand up it pulls on the scar tissue. Dr. said that was a possibility. Very uncomfortable and I can't walk long distances cause pain & bloating gets unbearable.

I had my gallbladder removed back in the 90s as a result of lactose intolerance (lactaze in milk not being digested, so forms gallstones). I now stick to soya milk and the only cheese with very naturally very little lactose, parmesan! But still found you can't eat everything else you like as doctors say (it doesn't even sound right, does it?). Too much fat and I am full of painful gas and/ rush to the loo. Sometimes I have pain on right side after a heavy meal. So - my advice, stick to low fat diet, restrict your fried fold, french fries, cakes etc (which are fat loaded) and even gassy drinks, which seem not good for me. If I stick to this, no problems at all, but when other people cook or I eat out, it gets tricky. I carry diahorrea med with me at all times just in case!

Hello, I am a 41years old female, my name is Diane.  I just recently had my gallbladder removed on Feb. 08,2012 and I was so afraid.  I was told by other people that i might gain alot of weight, is that true? Before my removal of my gallbladder I weighted at 171 and now I am 161. i sure don't want to gain any more weight.  I haven't felt and different yet, but one of my incesions still hurts or it is just sore.  can I get some tips for my surgery recovery?

Hi Diane, there is absolutely no reason why you should put on weight after gallbladder removal; where did you get that idea from? I had my gallbladder out in my forties some years ago. Sometimes being overweight is related to getting them in the first place though, particularly if you eat a fatty diet beforehand. I would expect to still feel sore and bruised in the area of the incisions if you only had the operation as recently ago as the 8th of Feb! In my experience it took several months to get back to normal physically, so just goes easy for a while and gradually build up strength. If you need any other questions answering I why try the best I can. I wish you a speedy recovery in any case. Good luck, from the UK

Hi Jan, yes this is true, you can get them again, as I was told by another surgeon, not the one who took my gallbladder out! A few years after the removal, I was still having stomach problems and sent for tests for lactose intolerance. It turned out I was - lactose intolerant, and this surgeon told me how to change my diet, otherwise gall stones can form again in other parts of your digestive tract. Lactose intolerance is not the only reason for gallstones forming, just one of many, so read up about the possible causes of them on the internet, ask your doctor and examine your diet as a consequence. In general, cutting down fatty foods cooked in oils, cakes and puddings, as well as creamy, milk based foods and drinks is a good place to start. This sort of diet is often implicated in Chrons disease as well, which is basically inflammation and scarring of the lining of the digestive tract. One of my relatives was taken into hospital with it over Christmas, completely out of the blue, and now has a colostomy bag. My advise, don't leave it all to doctors, they don't tell you everything as you found out - do a lot of research yourself then prod them further for answers!

Hi this is my first time doing this I came across of this website and noticed that Im not the only one that is having problems after gallbladder surgery. It has been two months since I had mine taken it out, I have been going though hell and back. I been having diahrrea alot. I cant eat some things they make me sick on my stomach and I have alot of gas. There sometimes I dont want to even eat somedays. I have told myself to go to the doctor but Im afraid they gonna say they cant do anything bout it. I also have seen that alot of you said that dont have any energy that is the same here with me. I want to sleep or lay around all time I think its because of me going to the bathroom so much and its just has took all of my energy. So if anyone has any suggestions plz share with me you  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use

Sorry so many of you are having problems.  My gall bladder ruptured three years ago, suddenly after three days of stomach pain.  Since I healed I've been eating whatever I like..... fats, nuts, berries, trail mix, spicy food and have never had a problem.  Every once in a while I have trouble with whole milk, but a couple Lactaid do the trick and I can drink all the milk I please.

Perhaps I'm having good luck because I didn't have any digestive or gall bladder problems prior to this weird attack.  I hope you can find some help.  For what it's worth I drink lots of juice and love non sweetened Cranberry Juice.

I was severly constipated for about 8 days after my GB surgery but now its been a month and the loose stools are setting in now its frequent and its an urgent sense to have to go. Don't worry too much about the constipation it'll go away but if it does'nt in the next two or three days you may want to call your doc up and find out whats going on.

I had my gall bladder removed November 2011 and have suffered diarrhoea within 10mins of eating a meal since, which is almost as bad as the constant flatulence.  Is this common?  Is it what I eat?  Will it last a lifetime?  What can I do to get back to a normal daily cycle, I had no problems at all in this area before this operation?

Has anyone else got this problem and had it for a long time and cured it?
