My son was using Ventolin for sometime and than was put on Combivent. I was told that Combivent is albuterol and atrovent combination. What is Ventolin then? Why he is switched to Combivent? Also, I want to know, is this combination dangerous in any way? If you have any information or you have used these medications, please write me.
Ventolin is albuterol, meaning that it is its generic name. Albuterol is drug that helps in relaxation of muscles in airways and opens them up. Combivent is combination of albuterol and atrovent. Atrovent is antiholinergic. Atrovent is mostly used for bronchospasm and for mucus problems. Albuterol and atrovent combined in Combivent can help people with asthma to breathe more easily.
