I love Cococare lip balm and used it for many years. I stopped using it because the Walgreens near me stopped stocking it. They started again a few weeks ago and after using it I've been getting dry lips and then my lips get tiny red bumps on it. I found out it's an allergic reaction to something that they added in the last few years. Being a person that isn't allergic to anything in specific my entire life, this completely shocked me. It's a great lip balm and I love the way that it smells but unfortunately can't use it anymore. :(

Hello. I've also had that problem before, with all types of the ChapStick brand chap stick. I got small, itchy little red bumps on my lips. But I tried Burt's Bees and it was so much better on my lips. I think its patrolatum that's in Chap Stick that im allergic to so I looked for a chapstick with Beeswax instead of patrolatum, and it worked really well since I haven't got that allergy ever since. Also, Nivea lip balms work well.
Hope this helped.

Hi everyone

I am also allergice to chapstick too. I tried EVERYTHING! i tried vasoline, blistex, burts bees, neosporin lip health, and nothing seemed to make the bumps go away. so i did some research and saw that a lot of people who were allergic to chapstick either a) went without anything at all or b) used something called Aquaphor. Itts a healing ointment that you can get at your local target or walmart. i saw they came out with a aquaphor specifically for lips, but you can get 2      .35 oz tubes for the same price as 1 of the lip kinds. after i started using it, the bumps and rash started going away in about a few days and turns out that i use way LESS of it than i used chapstick! hope this helps (:

Hi all, I first experienced these symptoms (super red, swollen lips with what appeared to be blisters on them) over a year ago & couldn't figure out for the life of me what it was or what caused it. I had to go to the ER because they got really bad & even the ER physician was stumped. I thought maybe it was an acquired allergy to chapstick because I used regular chapstick religiously so I stopped using chapstick after changing chapstick types to no avail. I even tried medicated Blistex but that made my lips hurt like hell. So I finally tried Carmex because it is medicated & that seemed to save me. Unfortunately, after the Carmex worked & I ran out of the first tube, I bought the Cherry flavored kind & that had my lips a hot mess once again with the same symptoms. So, I've concluded that I'm allergic to Cherry flavored Carmex because the regular one does nothing but save my lips. Hope this helps. It may not even be the flavoring but the active ingredients in it which are not present in the regular Carmex (Octinoxate, Oxybenzone & Camphor) Good luck!

I've had the same problem with Chapstick, Avon, and other lip balms as well. For me, the sunscreen is usually the problem. I can't use any sunscreen on my lips, so I've learned to avoid any products with PABA. Then I bought the Chapstick !00% Naturals lip balm and my lips blistered again. There's no sunscreen on the label, but it does have Tocopheryl Acetate (a form of vitamin E.) I guess I have a new ingredient to avoid.

"It has also been determined that Tocopheryl Acetate is a skin sensitizer that can instigate immune system responses that can include itching, burning, scaling, hives, and blistering of skin, according to The Natural Skincare Authority."

I'm allergic to cherry carmax and just found out today strawberry carmax too !!!! I have 9 days until my prom to get my loose back to normal. They are red, little bumps and feels weird. I hope they don't swell too bad like before. I'm using regular carmax to heal them but I need some hydrocrotazone like before!

I know I'm late on this post but I'm glad I found it. I'm allergic to any chapstick in stick form. I guess it has something to do with whatever makes it solid. I can use the tubes but nothing in a stick. go figure!

WARNING-BE CAREFUL: a lot of you are saying go for natural chapstick. i'm almost completely certain the reason i had this allergic reaction, was to specifically all-natural chapstick-brand chapstick. it was the first time i ever used it, i only used it for 2 days before my lips started blistering, and on the 3rd day, i suspected and checked the chapstick--a crop of long, furry MOLD had grown over the top overnight. that should definitely not be happening.

i went and saw a doctor when i had this problem, little bumps you couldn't see, but could feel, all over my lips. i was really worried it was cold sores--the doctor thought it might be--but now i think it was just an allergic reaction. everything i've read about cold sores, and the ones i've seen in person are larger sores mostly on the edges of your lips, but not all over the lips. my blisters were all confined within the edges.

i almost exclusively use burt's bees now, and haven't touched a chapstick-brand chapstick since. i'll take a few chemicals over mold, thx.

Whenever I put something on my lips, about aday later I would have breakouts :( (it sucked) and they would take a week to he'll and sometimes more. Whenever I was stressed, got a sunburn, or licked my lips a lot this happened. Then I found burts bees and its my hero. The only problem is if I stop using burts bees for a day or two, my lips automatically break out.

I used yes to carrots and broke out on my lips. Burts bees did it to me too, regular Chapstick doesn't.

I also had the problem with Cherry Chapstick specifically and also Sephora lip gloss. It is very painful and takes at least a week to heal

I used chapstick for years, it was the one thing I couldn't live without. A couple years ago, I developed this weird lip rash. It was red swollen, itchy, burning, and grossly it would be leaky. I didn't know what to do, and got all sorts of weird meds from doctors but nothing ever seemed to work. They thought it was stomatitis from Vit B def, but after checking my levels nad taking those vitamins I was fine (although that is a cause) Over the last year I've gradually shifted to using vaseline only, just out of liking. But have recently found out 1 of the causes of my rash. The few times i used chapstick, whether a little or a lot, within hours I looked like a duck. If i didn't aggravate it it would go down. It may also be a food allergy but i know this is one of hte causes. and as someone else said, CHERRY is the worst for me. So now I only use vaseline.

I found that the best way for a quick heal (after trying all ridic things). Is to first clean your lips with soap, to make it dry. If it ISN"T due to chapstick, you want to make sure you provide a dry area if it's bacteria, so no growth will occur. Then apply a thin layer of aquaphor/eucerin on and around your lips. You get it at any local drugstore, white bottle/tube with a blue cap, it's inexpensive and it's AWESOME. it's the only thing that helps in healing (its a healing ointment). This dramatically reduces my swelling. It won't make it go right away but it's the only thing that has helped and sped up the healing process.

Do take the tablet and/or use the cream on the blister?

Thank you for your post.
