I recently purchased MAC lipsticks in conjuction with a Rimmel lipgloss(contains glitter). I had previously known that I was allergic to glitter and chapsticks, but decided I may have completely healed from the symptoms....anyways, do you feel that the MAC lip products were what caused the reactions for you? Because I'd really like to think that it was the Rimmel lipgloss ):

I have this same issue. I've tried so many different types of lip balms and chapsticks - medicated and non - all with the same results; itchy, bumpy, red, swollen, cracked, leaky lips! What I've learned to do is to just use vaseline or lip butters. I have a lip butter from essence and some lip balms from Victoria's Secret that work perfectly with no problems, but they're 6$ and over x(

See, the common demoninator for me with all the lip products that made my lips have an allergic reaction was beeswax. I'm allergic to the stuff apparently! So now, I have to be very careful as to read ingredients before I buy something. It sucks, but I'd rather spend 6+ bucks than spending three weeks for my lips to heal.

I've been having this same problem with chapstick since I was 11 and Im 19 now. At first I was only allegeric to the brand "ChapStick," then it turned worst and I became allegeric to anything thing that was flavored. Over time I've learned that really there is only one brand of chapstick that does me no harm and that is Carmax, and only the original, non-flavored kind. Also, I think there are some vaselines that give me the same issue.

The past 2 weeks I encountered a similar situation.  I was using Chapstick "Moisturizer" and it had my lips burning and peeling.  At first I thought it was the side effects due to the dry nature of my lips.  However, whenever I didn't use it, my lips would feel 100% better.  So I finally concluded that I was allergic to the chapstick brand.  Im in my first week of recovery and my lips are healing fine.

I have the same issue. After a day or two of using any brand of chapstick (including Chapstick, Carmex, Blistex), small bumps appear on my lips. It wasn't too bad, they weren't like blisters, but when I would rub my lips, dead skin would come off. It became an issue because my lips tend to be very dry and this would only make it worse. For several years I gave up buying chapsticks. So a few months ago I came across EOS lip balm and it would be an understatement to say it worked. After using it everyday, there was no rash or bumps. My lips felt more moisturized and softer. I recommend EOS, although it is slightly more expensive, I believe it's worth it.

I have recently found that I am allergic to both Blistex and Carmex. I've been using various lip stuff for almost 30 yrs. I know I am kind of addicted to them, but never thought that I would form an allergy. Maybe it is the fact that I am coming up on those years where women's hormones change and become allergic to more stuff?? Had to resort back to good ole fashioned vaselline. Chap stick and Soft Lips and Aquafina seem to be fine yet, but I'm afraid to even try anything else.

Revising comment above...added another good one to the list and the heal time (saw another post asking how long to heal). At least this site alows us to comment w/o having to sign up...thank you!! Had to resort back to good ole fashioned vaselline to heal from the sores that looked awful (and I'm a teacher!). At least it cleared up within a few days, not more than a week. Chap Stick, Soft Lips, Neutrogena, and Aquafina seem to be fine yet, but I'm afraid to try anything else. I've tried those reluctantly and that's only because I already had them.

I have an allergic reaction to ChapStick because I am allergic to the chemical sunscreens they have begun to add to so many products. Octinoxate, Octisalate, Octocrylene, Oxybenzone. These can cause contact drematitis

I experienced no allergic reactions when using Chapstick Classic Original (black and white label) and ChapStick Moisturizer (blue, black and white label). However, when I tried applying ChapStick Classic Strawberry (red, black and white label), my lips became swollen after the first use. The following day my lips became very dry and itchy and started peeling. ChapStick is the only thing I apply to my lips, so I've easily narrowed it down to ChapStick Classic Strawberry.

ChapStick which contains chemical sunscreen active ingredients such as PABA appears to be the culprit in causing the allergic reaction on my lips. The Chapstick Original Classic Strawberry which I referred to in my other comment contains the chemical substance Padimate O, which is known to cause allergic contact dermatitis in some cases. On the back of this ChapStick package is a Warning label to stop use and ask a doctor if rash or irritation lasts. The irony is, the primary reason why I use ChapStick is to keep my lips moisturized and soft--when in my case it has done the polar opposite--making my lips peel and dry.

To be fair and objective, I thought I should add that one thing I've recently discovered with my experience with using various ChapStick lip balms is that some versions cause allergic reactions, while others don't. Interestingly, through all the years which I have been using ChapStick Moisturizer (blue, black and white label) lip balm, which contains relatively high amounts of SPF 15 chemical sunscreen substances such as Octinoxate (7.5%) and Oxybenzone (3.5%), I have had no noticeably adverse allergic reaction to this product.

Hi your lips can get used to having a Chapstick or Vaseline , and if you use a lip protector with petroleum jelly in it then they can get used to the moisture and it makes your lips worse . My sister found this and she had to wean her lips of petroleum jelly based lip salves for a while , her lips got a bit cracked for a while then they started making their natural moisture.... The most important thing is not to lick your lips at all

USE WALMARTS EQUATE TRIPLE ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT: literally the ONLY thing that works for me, and I'm allergic to all lip products, across the board, even something as simple as organic coconut oil. Try THAT ointment, it's a life saver.

Same thing happens to me. Almost every time I use 'Chapstick' brand, I would get a cold sore, and little relief from my chapped lips. Although I was younger, and tended would lick my lips when they were dry, 'Chapstick' would always make it worse. I switched to Burt's Bees brand, and have never had a bad experience. Also, Nivea worked well and I didn't experience any side effects, but I didn't like the texture of the product. Finally, I would advise to use less of the product. Instead of swiping the chapstick from side to side of your lips, try blotting it; even try blotting it on your upper lip and smack both lips together a few times. Hope this helps, because I know your pain and it sucks!
