I recently started having itching problems after using the Costco brand toilet paper, it is by Kirkland. I had been using the brand for a couple of years, but they must have changed the formula. As soon as I stopped using it, I quit having problems.

Yes! I have an allergy to methylisothiazolinone and it is found in a ton of toilet paper and causes exactly what you are describing.

Late response, but yes, you CAN be allergic to toilet paper! (Might not be real allergies, per se, but it could be a sensitivity issue). I don't do well with the soft toilet paper, and even after using it just once, I will end up being uncomfortable. I suggest you keep your own TP in your car and/or buy bulk baking soda (taking a bath in baking soda helps the irritation go down).

Hi
My wife has had terrible irritation with some toilet papers intermittently for years and Lidl's Floralys supersoft white with pink flowers was brilliant but they seem to have just stopped making it so we are on the hunt for more.We are going to try Cheeky Panda loo rolls off Amazon next. There are loads of chemicals in paper and it seems just trial and error really but we have found in general coloured ones are worse oddly enough.
I was a GP 30 years and yeast can sometimes do it but all that itches is definitely not yeast/Candida/Thrush. I suspect many women are using wrong or unnecessary soothing products eg Lanacaine etc (which you can get allergic to too as this and some others contain local anaesthetics).
Lubriucants on condoms are very occasionally another cause for some women but they can get internal vaginal irritation too and don't foget anything else from Body washes, shower gels, shampoo etc etc which do it for some folks!
If it's driving you mad and simple things don't work as ever see your GP or Practice Nurse I suggest

there are GMO bugs in the cotton fields & I believe that is why we are seeing an increase in allergies.

FIND A FRIEND THAT HAS A COSTCO MEMBERSHIP OR TRIAL MEMBERSHIP AND JUST BUY ONE PACKAGE, EVEN THOUGH IT MIGHT BE A BIG ONE, I TRIED COSTCO'S KIRKLAND, PARTIALLY BECAUSE IT'S CHEAP AND I LIKED HOW MUCH PAPER WAS ON A ROLL...BUT I WAS WAS ALLERGIC TO THEIR PAPER!!!

Cheeky Panda is good as they use bamboo but my concern is hydrogen peroxide. That's what they use to bleach the paper and unfortunately I am sensitive to that. It is increasingly difficult to find formaldehyde or generally chemical free toilet paper. I've been currently experiencing discomfort/burning for around a month - treated for thrush and it didn't help at all.

Hi I have the same experience. I use Scott at home, the original not the soft but I do private duty nursing in different people homes so I end up using their tissue. I regret not bringing my own because I am so irritated now. My client was using angel soft which can irritate but I just noticed she bought Target brand TP oh my I will be bringing my Scott original from now on and CVS brand that resembles Scott doesn't seem to irritation either.

Oh My yes, Scott is instant misery for me. I could even stand charmin ultra strong for a while, but now nope. Switched to cottonelle w aloe and e and that was ok for a while too and now I'm thinking that's becoming a problem.

One time though I used cheap TP at A state park bathroom, and I am absolutely sure it was not bleached because you could see the different color fibers. And I was in misery for days.

Other suggestions-- make sure you buy new underwear every so often, I tend to like the microfiber stuff in boy short style. You can soak that in oxy clean or ammonia or vinegar periodically it without damaging it. Cotton underwear is supposedly encouraged but I don't see why. cotton HOLDS moisture close to your skin instead of rocking it away.

Another thing I thought of is that people can also be allergic to different species of wood. So even unbleached TP can be a problem and there is no way of knowing what kind of wood pulp mixes might be in TP

You bet toilet papers are different! My husband started buying ours and I really noticed more itching. Why don't the companies label the cardboard roll at the end so you know what you bought. I have always been aware of detergents and soaps but never thought of the TP.

Everyone is talking about the allergy! But what about the cure! What do u use to ease the discomfort and pain?

I just figured out that Scott TP is my problem, it took a four roll before it dawned on me! Switching back to Charmin cured me. Glad when I found out others had the Scott problem too. I am 82 and don't need this kind of aggravation.

OMG this is exactly what I was verifying. I have Benet miserable and thought it was everything else on the planet ... except Toilet paper and specifically Cottonelle. Changing to "natural" and UNbleached tomorrow!
