Me too I get dizzy and my blood pressure is through the roof!  160 over 100 or so.  Scary feeling....  Thanks to this site I see that my body is perhaps forming anti-bodies that's why maybe they cannot find nothing wrong with me??

You know what it is like going to the emergency room and getting treated like a wacko cause they find nothing wrong?  Seems like they would know this stuff..... idiots.  Just like when I had kidney cancer, really was hard to get a doctor to believe something was wrong with me.....

Found this thread when I Googled "almonds + dizziness" because, guess what, me too. I know I get stomach pain from eating almonds (even if raw and/or organic, direct from farm, etc.), but almond butter I got recently seemed to be OK -- except for this dizzy feeling I get every time I eat it! Sadly, I think the same is true for walnuts.

i'm slowly taking things out of my diet to find out which foods make me dizzy, and it seems that almonds and maybe walnuts are the culprits. simple sugars have a similar effect too.  it's a dizzy, very full feeling in my head, as if i have sinus congestion, but all over my head, and with no sinus issues.  am curious to know what others have found out about their symptoms.

My symptoms, which I trace directly to almonds, in particular raw almonds come on between one and even 12 hours after eating the almonds. The feeling is what I imagine a heart-attack to feel like - intense stabbing pain in the chest that is difficult to locate and spreads through the abdomen and shoulders like a spreading cramp. Ow, it sux. And I love almonds. Properly roasted does help, the ones causing my attack now (12 hours later) I pan roasted myself and were not fully roasted. Will from Melbourne, Australia

I too have experience dizziness, it started last week. i have been eating a lot of almonds lately but the dizziness is new. i did not eat any over the weekend and was fine. today at work i snacked on them with cranberries and the dizziness was back. i too read that there is a trace of cyanide in almonds. i think they should post warning labels. is it safe?

I've had several cases of dizziness in the past twenty years that I could connect to eating almonds. I vividly remember being dizzy for a full day after munching away a delicious bag of italian cantucci almond cookies. I'm 100% sure it had to do with the almonds but I'm not allergic to anything. What I do know is that the sweet almonds have been selected thousands of years ago for their lack of cyanide bitterness and contain only 1/1000 of the amount of cyanide that bitter almonds have. This means that the dizziness/vertigo could have come from a very small amount of bitter almonds being harvested with the sweet almonds.

I did some more digging on the web and found a forensic document from the US Food and Drug Admin confirming that a sample of sweet almonds contained a relatively high dose of cyanide, caused by a small amount of bitter almonds within the batch. I further found a post from a person who has been working in a laboratory and found he/she was extremely sensitive to the smell of cyanide. So was sure she smelled cyanide when she opened a box of supermarket sweet almonds. I found another post of someone complaining about dizziness after eating organic almonds.

Together, this makes it very clear to me that you and I happened to eat one, or part of, a bitter almond or a 'less domesticated' sweet almond that had higher than average cyanide content.Looking at the world market for almonds, over 90% is produced by the US, but there is a steady incline of almonds from other countries such as Spain, Iran, Italy and Morocco. I wouldn't be surprised to find that almonds are nowadays a mixture of expensive and less expensive almonds, with the latter ones not always having the food quality control that we expect to cut costs. So it could either be a contamination by almonds from less controlled countries or a contamination from less controlled US producers, or both.

About a dozen bitter almonds could kill a human, so if you've had (part of) one bitter almond this could make you sick for one or more days.

Me, too!  And I drink almond milk!  And I noted itchy lymph glands behind my ear - only on one side - awful!  Topical ointment seemed to help, but cutting out then nuts (including peanuts - which aren't really nuts) helped significantly.  So happy (?) to hear that I am not alone with this.  I hate dizziness as I am sure all of you do, too!

Two weeks ago I bought almonds because I thought they are healthy snack. Two weeks ago I started feeling dizzy, like a sinus type of feeling, today feeling a little better, grab a few almonds, got dizzy, made a connection, could it be the almonds?

I was happy to find others who have this same strange allergy that I have.  I started eating almonds as part of an effort to reduce my blood pressure about two years ago.  I noticed right away that I would be extremely dizzy within 15 minutes of eating a handful of almonds.  I now keep a dish full of them on my desk and limit my intake to about 4 per hour which helps to keep me standing vertical.  I have a blood pressure monitor and once took a reading when I was feeling dizzy and the reading was normal so the dizziness was not due to a sudden drop in blood pressure.

I have noticed that when I get that dizzy feeling, I can force out a burp and feel better almost immediately.  My guess is that my almond reaction creates a bubble of gas that gets stuck at a spot near my heart (cardiac sphincter?) putting pressure on my heart and the burp relieves that pressure.  I am allergic to filberts.  When I eat them, I get a burning, scratching feeling from my mouth down to my stomach.  Almonds must do the same thing to me on a smaller scale.

If I stop eating almonds for a few days, once in a while I will still get a dizzy sensation.  I have not been able to track down what that other food is that causes the same sensation.  I’ll have to pay attention to what foods I eat that could contain cyanide.   TJH

Ditto! Last year I noticed that when I ate raw almonds my chin would turn red and look swollen. I got a skin test and it was negative. Just stopped buying the big bad of almonds just in case. (My skin got worse so I just tried to avoid whatever the cause was).

On a new "diet". Switched to almond milk vs coconut milk a few weeks ago. Then I decided to try almond butter. Ate some. Within minutes my chest felt tight and I felt like I was going to pass out (I assumed it was because I kept trying to take deep breaths but the lightheadedness did continue). Drank a bunch of water. Seemed to calm down. Throat was sore that night. Right where I would have swallowed it.

Next day same place in throat felt like someone scraped off a layer. I know I'm not sick b/c now I can take a full breath. But I guess b/c it's healing I have mucous and my glands are swollen and ears slightly hurt (like my regular seasonal allergy symptoms except I've already been on allergy meds for month-Zyrtec and singular). Oh, also doubled up with a Claritin after it happened, just in case.

Glad I'm not alone! Everyone I know with a food allergy was telling me my mouth would tingle. That didn't happen! Blood work already in, and was given epi-pens just in case. I'm never eating almonds again!
