In hopes that this may find anyone seeking an answer to these symptoms and to a broader audience as well, I'm posting what I just discovered today. Please research propylene oxide.

Apparently since 2007 the state of California has required all (nearly all) almonds to be sold on the domestic market to be either gassed or steamed with this known carcinogenic chemical.

You don't have to read very far into the NIH article on propylene oxide (https://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/search/a?dbs+hsdb:@term+@DOCNO+173) before you see the most common symptoms described in this thread are equivalent to those reported in this article for exposure to propylene oxide.

This sort of affront to basic human rights needs to be stopped! God help us all.

Yes.

I started getting horrible bouts of vertigo three years ago. After much work on this. I stopped eating
almonds three weeks ago. No dizziness. Ate 8 almonds, started feeling off balanced and knew a
vertigo attack was on its way. Hit me when I brushed my teeth. No almonds for two weeks now.
No vertigo, dizziness or off balanced feeling. So far - looks like almonds are the cause.

I have had the same thing. Stopped all the sprays, etc. Dizziness did not go away. Stopped nuts
- in particular almonds- no dizziness - ate almonds and got dizziness/vertigo. I have stopped again
and I am ok.

I don't think it is an allergy. It is something else but it is the nuts.

I think there must be something to this I was eating a lot of almonds several months ago and I got a dizzy spell going for about 2 months. So I'm not been eating almonds and then someone brought some home night before last chocolate covered I ate some then ate some the next day and then this morning I ate some and I was horribly dizzy. So I just put two and two together it's almonds

To me, it felt like I needed to burp or something but nothing would happen. I got really hot too. I was at work, and when I left about 30 minutes later, I felt like I needed extremely greasy food, so I ate pizza. I didn't really feel great the rest of the night, but not in dire need like before. I think you might be onto something, because I don't seem to have a problem with "processed" almonds and drink almond milk no problem. My best guess was that I'm allergic to birch tree pollen, and that maybe cooking/washing them would fix the issue.

OMG I am so glad I read this page. I just had a handful of almonds at work and got so dizzy. I was wondering what was happening. I plan to avoid eating them on an empty stomach.

So strange. I’m doing research online now because I became very dizzy twice after having the Trader Joe’s almond milk.

Just glad to know I’m not the only one. And it sucks because I love almond. They make me dizzy and give me light chest pains.
