My friend has a bad infection on two toes on his left foot. He asked for help too late, so doctor said there is no hope for those fingers. He will amputate them. He is afraid that infection will spread otherwise. What I want to know is what happens after the amputation procedure. Are there risk and what benefits he will have from the procedure? Thanks!
Well risk associated with the amputation procedure are related to anesthesia, numbness, allergic reaction to the drug used in this type of anesthesia, also A blood clot may form in the veins, escape into the bloodstream, and block an artery in the lungs. He may be given a blood thinner to help prevent this. I guess that amputation of those fingers is only way to remove source of infection. after the procedure he may stay in hospital for a while, maybe not and maybe he will need physical or occupational therapy to help him adjust to the loss of his toes.
