Hello Everyone!! Thanks for all of the posts; they really helped me out! I just had the surgery on Thursday August 13. It is now 5 days since the surgery. I go to my first appt. tomorrow. I'm very excited! For a long time I was unhappy with myself as a woman! My self esteem suffered drastically. I feel like your body is a piece of art! And my art was "jacked up" lmbo! I had to explain it to my significant other;because he loves me regardless he was against me getting it done!! " Why would you want to stop in an art gallery to look at a painting that's horrendous, instead of looking at the Mona Lisa?! lol ( just my take)
Other than me being unsatisified with myself, I did have some pain from the extra skin. I did some research then talked to my gyn about it. She said even though it is considered cosmetic she could make it seem like it was for health reasons. Which was great, because my insurance would cover 90% of the cost. So instead of it being a labiaplasty it was documented as a partial vulvectomy. (everyone should try to do it through insurance )
The first day was okay, I had alot of bleeding. And I'm still bleeding. The first day it was very swollen; I couldn't even close my legs. Although it did get better as the days went on. The first couple days I used ice packs every half hr. I still use them to help with the burning. The second day the pain was excrucriating i couldnt walk at all. I woke up in horrible pain because I tried to whin myself off the pain meds. BAD IDEA!! MOTRIN IS NOT ENOUGH!! I really had to take them as suggested 1 every 3-4 hrs. I've been using a spray bottle twice a day to clean throughly and it seems to be working. When washing on the 3rd day one of my stitches came out which scared the hell out of me! But they are disolvable. I am terrified to sit in a tub of water. I was thinking about getting a sitz bath. BUT HOW LONG WOULD I USE IT FOR? It is a recession lol and i'm off work until Sept. Today was the first day i could actually sit WITH MY LEGS OPEN Of Course; And on pillows, rolled up towels for extra support. But it is undeniable progress. I hope it wont be swollen for long! I use a mirror when washing to insure that I am doing it correctly. So I know the swelling has went down dramatically. How long does it take to generally heal? I cant imagine feeling like this for a couple more weeks!! :-(
I wish everyone good luck and a speedy healing time! I look forward to seeing everyones responses and progress! ;-)

In this part of the world the surgery is very simple and cheap. It is called circumcision ( female ) and the labia minora is trimmed so that it will not be visible outside and the hood is touched only if it is too much. The surgery cost just 200 USD ? not much more than the male circumcision ( remove the foreskin ) which will be around 100 dollars.
It is better to do this for girls in the age of seven to ten when the skin start growing then the scar issue will not be there also the swelling etc will be much less.

I am Canadian and I know that this surgery is covered under MSI. In the states it can be a very expensive procedure. Also, you should check in with your local Service Canada (Employment Insurance) branch to see if you can be covered with medical leave (or something like that). I am getting my surgery done this month and I am nervous!! I hope I don't end up with a worse situation!

I am exceptionally unhappy with the way my labia is. It is uncomfortable but to be frank, the main reason for me esthetic purposes. It really holds me back in my life. I can't wear yoga pants in gym class at school because i'm self conscious and this that people will se how irregular is is. I can't wear bikini bottoms and have to wear shorts if i ever go swimming. i can't imagine having sex with someone when I am like this because I am simply too self conscious. I mean, I am not one to go and have plastic surgery because i don't like some part of my body. BUt this is a very important part and I believe that it would make me very much at peace with myself if I got this surgery. I've researched it extensively and I've seen pictures. I know for a fact that my labia is along the lines of the worser looking ones. I am glad to hear that the surgery worked out for a lot of people. :-)

I had my Labia surgery done two weeks ago at Plastica with Dr. Jugenburg in Toronto. Everything went really well. I had the trim method instead of the wedge. I discussed it with the doctor and he explained why the trim was better for me than the wedge. It had to do with the shape of my labia skin. I am pretty much healed by now. Except for the swelling for the first week, everything has been fine.

my obgyn performed my labiaplasty 2 weeks ago and i am incredibly unhappy with the results. my inner labia was longer on the right side which caused a great deal of discomfort. she was to shorten the right side to match the left (which was normal). instead she cut both sides. the right side is butchered and looks like a piece of meat that has been pounded-- and i am serious. they are incredibly uneven. i realize it's hard to make them perfect, even for the perfectionist, but this is ridiculously different-- she almost removed all of the right labia. what can i do.? my follow-up is this monday. i am so depressed...

Definitely ask why she altered both sides when only one was supposed to be touched.

I had Labiaplasty on both the majora and minora labias due to tears from childbirth. It has been 6 weeks and i still feel very tender, especially on the labia majora. Im hoping Im not in the 2 percent whose pain never eliviates. On the other hand I am very happy with the results. i had huge labias on the majora and tears on the minoras and it look beautiful now! Althought my doctor said i can resume sex, I choose to wait the full recommended 8 weeks due to the soreness.

Hello everyone,
I am 20 years old and ive been thinkin abt doing the labiaplasty but reading all these posts are making me skeptical abt going thru with it. My labia minora and majora are large and portruding and looks very disgusting. I am still a virgin becuase i think that no guy will accept me the way i am, especially since i cant accept myself like this. Ive done my research but i still need recommendations on which is the best method and surgeon to use based on you guy's experiences.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I read the post from the woman who lives in Ireland and I would like to know where her gyno and surgeon is located because you sound so happy with the results and it's very important to me to have a female perform my operation. If possible Could I have the name of her clinic or even her name. I understand there must be anomosity involved and would appreciate all the details you can give.
Thanking you

I had labiaplasty done yesterday. So far, even swollen, it is smaller than it was. Yes I need to ice to keep the swelling down. No, I didn't have much discomfort. But I will say this. If you are unhappy with how you look down there and you want to do something about it, do it. Unfortunately, I read a lot of the posts on here presurgicallyand they did nothing but make me a bit more nervous. But I went with my gut and still had it done. I'm wondering why there is so much post surgical whining? ITS SURGERY! You are not supposed to get up off the table and be able to go run 20 miles. It takes TIME to heal. Weeks, maybe even months. But the body DOES heal.
For those of you who are considering having it done: Do lots of research. Meet as many doctors as you need to. LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTORS POST SURGICAL ADVICE! But be carefrul in what you read on this site because it can needlessly scare the hell out of you. For you girls who had it done already: Use your ice, your Motrin and stop analyzing every healing step and freaking out. You are going to drive yourself crazy. Let your body work to finish the healing. It will in its own time. And stop scaring other people.

hi. I am 23 and from Australia and had a labiaplasty 5 days ago. The procedure took 20-30mins under general an. and i wasnt uncomfortable til day 3. Now im slightly swollen and i feel that one of the stitches is pinching at my labia which is quite painful when walking but other then that no real complaints, and nothing that pain killers arent fixing. Im so happy with the result and cant wait for the swelling to go down. Also cant wait to exercise again as ive put on a couple of kg's from sitting and doing nothing. Im getting my stitches removed in 2 days, although they are dissolvable my gynae. likes to remove them herself.
I must say one of the things which stopped me from doing this previously was the cost of the procedure, but my doctor referred me to a gynaecologist who performed labiaplasty's and i was only out of pocket $550AU which is so cheap.
To anyone considering this... i reccommend it. Nothing beats loving yourself. :-)
