Insurance should cover it, if not-its still waay worth it.  Make sure your surgeon is reputable and can offer you pics and patients to contact.  I had it done for cosmetic reasons a year ago, it cost about 4 thousand, one week recovery and I am sooo pleased.  Looked pretty scary for about 6 weeks.  Now-nearly perfect.  I wish I would have done it years ago.  Am no longer self-concious, sex is way better.  Good luck!

May I ask why is looked pretty scary for about 6 weeks? Other than the surgery area, did you have swelling on the outer lips?

May I asked, why did it look pretty scary for about 6 weeks? was it due to the incision itself, or did you have swelling of the Labia Majorum?

Both areas were very swollen for about a month. Painfull mostly for the first week, but I was still walking around cleaning, shopping etc. Even when the swelling subsides after a month or so, the incisions look strange and not so nice. appearence went back to normal in 3 months or so. Now a year later, looks great, as in I can see the scars but no one else would notice.

Recovery can vary by person, doctor and of course how you care for the area. Typically though you can expect to resume normal activities (exercise, sex, etc.) in 6-8 weeks. It is always best to listen to your body.

IMO, I would take my time. Keep doing your research, understand all the pros/cons and how to avoid complications. If you decide to have it, make sure you choose a doc that knows what they are doing & has a ton of experience!!

Best wishes, Vanessa

I went to my gyno this past Monday. She has done over 80 of these surgeries, only one was a problem, and it was due to lady having sex too soon. It ripped and got infected, beause the lady was too embarrassed to go to the doctor afterwards.

My surgery is scheduled for April 12th. I can hardly wait. They have me on a cancellation list, as I would rather do it sooner. My insurance is covering all of it, as it is a symptomatic issue, (painful and ripping with intimacy). Thank you for answering my questions. I'll keep you all posted on my recovery. =)

Hi
I just had my labiaplasty done four days ago and I'm really worried that my doctor hasn't taken enough skin off. I'm wondering if I should be considering having a revision or if this is just swelling. I know I'm probably overreacting as I am only a few days post-op, but the amount of time and effort that I had to put in to convince my mum that this was a legitimate issue... I don't want to go through that again, nor do I want to make my parents fork out another 5 thousand. Should I be worried or do I just need to sit it out for a few weeks and see what happens?

Definately wait at least 4-6 weeks before you even entertain the idea of a revision! For the first month my bits were unrecognizable. There is a tremendous amount of swelling and stiches etc. You also don't want your labia completely gone as it would look very unnatural. I have heard of others who had too much off and didn't notice for about a month then they referred to it as "retraction" of the skin after healing and reported that things were so tight down there that it was painful for months. Don't worry yet-give it a month or so, there is absolutely no way you can tell right now what the final result will be. There is likely more swelling than you think.

totally agree with above, the swelling for the 1st few weeks is bad- i strongly advise anyone having this done DO NOT LOOK down there for at least 2 weeks. - im one of the ones who is left with 2 scar lines (apart from an inch from the top) as they took it all off, - not what i requested, but still million times happier now than how i looked before and luckily i had no pain or tight feeling wotsover, so im a happy girl! ice ice ice on and off every 20 mins will reallly help x

Thanks for the advice! I was getting quite nervous, when she said three days I was expecting that that would be the final result. I'll give it a good few more weeks then.
Did anyone else have dissolvable stitches? How long did they take to actually dissolve?

Ha Ha-three days? at the three day mark I was left with something I referred to as "Frankensnatch" lol. It didn't even start to look normal for a month, final result was more evident after 2-3 months. Now-its perfect, no scarring, looks completely natural. Some of my stiches came out after only a few days, others stayed in for about a month. The longer they stay in throughout the healing-the better (less chance of scarring). Emzone is right-don't even look down there! Did you have the wedge or just a straight cut?

I had a straight cut. I had it done because it was uncomfortable wearing just about anything, so I was hoping that the end result would be the inner labia not sticking out past the outer labia, but it still seems to be longer. Is this going to change as the swelling goes down? I'm going to go see my doctor in a few weeks so hopefully she'll have some good news.

honestly katie it is such early days and everything is so swollen, i promise u give it 3 weeks and u will be amazed, even the stitches cause additional swelling, so please stop worrying. dont have a bath for a week either as u dont want those stitches coming out too soon! keep us updated x

I too had the same problem as you. I also had the straight cut and thought the same as you in the first few days. If you told your surgeon you did not want the inner labia to show on the outside at all-I am positive she would have cut enough to accomplish this-the rest is just swelling. Hang in there, its sooo worth it!
