I went to the doctor. She said everyone heals at their own rate. I threw myself back trying to "do too much". She said I'm healing normally but I am still very swollen and I had a pretty bad yeast infection from all of the antibiotics, yuck! So I've been on hardcore bedrest (horribly boring) but the swelling has gone down quite a bit but I'm going to wait before I start pulling around down there to see if I was right about the merging of labia. I want to take arnica but my husband is a physician and he said no, I'm really not trying to get in an fight right now!! The doctor took pictures and even though I was covered in medicine I could still tell it looked much better than before. I hope I only thought the right side was messed up because of all the swelling! Doctor doesn't want to see me until I'm 7 weeks post op because I am behind on healing. I would hate to have another surgery, it hurts way more than I thought it would be. Thank you for keeping in touch with me. These message boards are way better than anything any doctor or staff can tell you! Take care lululu! I think I will post again when I know more. I really hope everything works out well!

good, make sure u do what they have said re bed rest - im just suprised by the lenght of time u are taking to recover, i thought i was bad at 2 weeks, especially wen u read on these sites some girls saying they felt back to normal within a week. one thing i didnt do was to look though - and i highly recommend that to anyone having this surgeyr done soon. do NOT look until at least 4 weeks later as it will look gruesome and will prob scare the life out of you. are u still on pain killers? i so hope u start to improve in terms of the pain u are in , wot a misery for you. know wot u mean re these sites, absolute godsend for me, got so much advice from the only people who truly know wot u are going thru. look 4ward to hearing your healing updates xx

Hi. I had labiaplasty just over a year ago and for the past year I haven't been able to walk for longer than an hour a day without experiencing pain and everything going inflamed and blister-y. I can't exercise, have sex or go out much with my friends. I had surgery again a month ago and I still cannot walk for longer than 10 minutes without being in a lot of pain. Last time I walked for 15 minutes, the scars inflamed and something that looked like a blister had appeared. So I've literally been in bed for a month and it's driving me crazy. Before you have surgery, you never think you'll be the one that it goes wrong for. I'm a healthy 22 year old and I went to one of the best surgeons there is. Anyone that isn't completely completely desperate to have surgery, don't do it. If you feel like you've just been influenced by the media, don't do it. It can ruin your life. It's crazy but I can't regret it because I know I couldn't have enjoyed my life with my old labia... I felt disgusting and not sexy, so uncomfortable and couldn't be intimate with anyone. And I agree that I hate it when people in the media criticise woman for having this surgery, pisses me off so much, because you cannot understand what it's like unless you've been through it. But if you feel there's any way you don't have to have the surgery i.e. maybe trying therapy first, I wouldn't do it. I feel like my life is ruined... I've just finished University and I can't get a job because I can't hardly walk, I can't go out, I can't exercise, I can't have a relationship. And from not doing any exercise for over a year and lying in bed much of the time, the rest of my body looks awful and I used to be alright with it. Don't do it unless you haveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee to! Although it looks alright, it definitely doesn't feel alright, and neither me or my surgeon knows what's wrong.

oh my goodness you poor poor girl - was this done on the nhs (assuming you are from england) or private? how much was taken off? ive never heard of anyone being in this state a year on. so so unfair for you, as i know the decision to have the op is a major one, but u should not be like this 2 months on let alone a year on. what surgery have u just recently had? totally agree with u though - only have this done if u are physically and mentally affected, dont do it to look 'normal'/ i had it done a year ago and so glad had it done, even if the stupid surgeon near enuf took the lot off apart from the top part - so im left with 2 scar lines, but hey ho id rather that any day than what i had before - and by the way im 42 - took me 20 years to go through with it! all the best to you

thanks. its nice to have support from someone who's been through it all, and gets all the emotions you go through before deciding to have it done - especially as you waited 20 years. i felt like there was something wrong with me from about 15 and became obsessed with it really for the next 7 years. yeah from england but I decided to go to america for the surgery because I didn't trust the 2 surgeons i met in free consultations in england and I didn't like how english surgeons didn't used to put up before and after photos on their website so u dont know whether they're good or not - but they put up photos of breast enlargement surgery like that's somehow more acceptable. I didn't think i'd get it on the nhs because i thought there were very few people that would and i was too embarrassed to go to my doctor at the time! i didn't tell my parents until 6 weeks after the surgery. So i went to a reknowned surgeon in america privately, ironically because i didn't want to risk having botched surgery. it now doesn't hang out and he probably took 2-3cm off originally. the surgeon paid for me to go back and have the surgery again (minus flights) to see if it might help the problem, I'm trying to stay positive as it's only been just over a month but the longer i can't walk the more helpless I feel. I also really don't get how hard it is to cut in a straight line! and to make them even, one's basically double the size of the other. it's so frustrating, i wish i could do it on myself! but i could totally accept the imperfections if i could just exercise... i used to love running. I'm glad it went well for you and u can lead a normal life and at least be much more confident than before. was this an nhs surgeon? how long did it take for your scars to not be at all sensitive? i've become a bit more cynical of the whole process after reading articles on surgeons that just do it to get rich and don't really care about each individual patient but i guess we need these people to have it done. my surgeon was lovely to me the first time round and gave me loads of time but really changed the second time round, but i guess he was doing it for free so i can't really blame him.

I had my labiaplasty 3 months ago and the right labia is still really swollen (why?), like it is twice as thick as the left labia. The left labia looks perfect except for the fact that it SPLIT IT HALF! My doctor is going to charge me $500 to sew it back together while I'm fully awake. He made me wait two months to fix it. (I had procedure on Aug. 24, he noticed the split labia on Sep. 24, and he won't fit me into his schedule to sew it back together until December 29th.) And stitches below the labia split open (the area of skin between your crotch and your anus). And my inner labia is really sore. And the skin below my labia. Overall, I think I have major nerve damage.

hi anna22 - damn shame u didnt go via the nhs as you would have been eligible a year ago - its now near enough completley not funded via nhs. so yes, mine was an nhs gynaecologist who also does private. im a medical sec, so i knew who was best, but hindsight and all that i should have taken a foto in with me to show exactly wot i was after, as i didnt expect the lot to be gone!, but saying that i do keep reading stories of girls where the labia have split and uneven etc so at least ive never had any problems there.

i was back to normal after 2 months - that was how long i waited to have sex and therer was no problem with that, and i think that was the time i started back to keep fit classes. i really think u should see your gp for nhs opinion - as although u had it done privately for the cosmetic result, u are now suffering clinically and im sure they mite b able to do something for you. re american surgeon - yes, funny that he wasnt so nice 2nd time around and no you cant blame him just cos doin it for free, he clearly cocked up the 1st time round ! did u have scapel or lazer method? my only advice is try to rest as much as possible, use ice on and off, have u tried emla numbing cream, epsom salts in the bath, and warm salty water when u wee - all helps with the healing process. keep me updated x

I had labiaplasty five years ago and have been in pain since. I thought I went to a reputable surgeon who was featured on Dr 90210 and owns a laser vaginal surgery centre in LA. I have since discovered this surgeon who had all the correct credentials, is being sued by former patients for botched labiaplasty operations. I know why people would have it done, but I'd say not ony research the surgeon's credentials, but also see if they have had any court proceedings brought against them. My surgeon is now featured all over the internet being sued by the courts in Los Angelas. He calls himself the 'Vagina Designer' and he has ruined so many lives. I just wish I'd known this before I went to him. I told him that all I wanted was a inner labia reduction.

However, when I woke up in the recovery room, I descovered a large open gap in my mons pubis and he'd removed my clitoral hood. He'd also interfered with my pelvic floor muscles, none of this I asked for. The gap in the mons pubis closed up after two weeks, but the join wasn't good and my underneath area is squashed up,.

I didn't have a witness at my consultation as I kept the surgery secret from friends and family, but I would advise you have someone you know at your consultation and you research whether anyone has taken leagal action against the surgeon. You should ask them straight if any of their patients have been dissatisfied or had any complications and ensure you repeat yourself as to what you want. The rest of your life is a long time to be in pain and discomfort. It can be very depressing and in the early stages, I was suicidal, so please be careful if you proceed with this. I wish you all the best, take care.

i had labiaplasty 7 months ago and i had a horrible experience with it.
after the surgery i had woken up but was continuing to bleed heavily from my stitches and was in horrible pain so they gave me more stitches while i was awake. because of those extra stitches needed i had insane swelling and pain and couldn't do anything, even sit up for 2 weeks
after the swelling went down i was very disappointed to see that it actually looked worse than before i had the surgery it was a shorter than before but its jagged and very odd looking. I'm so mortified of the way it looks I'm to scared to let any guy touch me let alone see me until i can save up enough to get it done again. i see no other option at this point. But I highly suggest you find the right doctor and if you are going to do this and be prepared and be aware of the risks and what can go wrong.... and you should be proud of the way god made you, i wish i would have understood that before i under went a surgical procedure but that doesn't mean its to late for me to warn you.

I need to have this procedure done, as the labia tears when I have intercourse, which then takes days to heal. I have dealt with this for over twenty years. I no longer feel comfortable, its uncomfortable physically, and the dryness they cause is killing me and my interest in sex. Lubes do not seem to work.

Due to the issues above, shouldnt insurance cover it?

was your labiaplasty covered by your insurance? Or is this a plastic surgeon elective surgery? I need this procedure done secondary to a bad vaginal tear sustained during vaginal delivery....but my health ins has denied the claim. Any suggestions?

have u not seen your doctor about this - as this is clearly not for cosmetic reasons, and u have a good case for having it done on the nhs = worth a try x
