I've been considering labiaplasty for years. Recently, I was able to finally afford it, $5,900 is a lot but I guess you can't put a price on your happiness and feeling comfortable with yourself...I'm 5 days post op and am pleasantly surprised, I thought the pain, swelling and bruising would be so much worse. The surgery took about an hour. They numbed the area with anesthesia and that was the worst part of it all, the needle is def painful and they inject it five times! Other than that, no pain at all. On my way home I started to feel pain but I took the Tylenol 3 they gave me and I was fine. I've had minimul swelling and no bruising which is really surprising because I happen to bruise really easily! I was out shopping on day three! The only annoyance at this point is the itching from the sutures. I only needed the ice pack on the first day and now I just keep the area clean with unscented wipes and neosporin. From what I can tell already, I know I will love the results! This is a difficult decision, especially when you read the horror stories but as long as you do your research and you know 100% it's what you want, than go for it! I'm so happy I did :-)

I did labioplasty after I saw some ads that suggested that big labia were abnormal.
Before that I had no physical discomfort or insecurities.
But after I heard about labioplasty I got extremely ashamed of myself.
Now that I have done it I look mutilated and after 7 months I still have agonizing pain and sex is impossible.
To what extent do we have to butcher our normal bodies to catch up with the media created "ideals"? :-(

in response to your question, i know people who have gotten the surgery done and said that they ahd no problems with child birth. i had my surgery done abotu a week ago and my surgeon said that childbirth would be the same even if i didnt have this procedure done.
its about 7 days after the surgery and i had a couple questions for girls who had this done. i have to say that so far i am extremely pleased with the results. the problem is, i had the pernial (part between the vagina and the anus) cut due to its large-ness and unfortunately i popped the stitches due to strainging because of my first boul movemtn. im not really bleeding alot just alittle bit but now there is a cut right down the middle. im not really sure if anyone had this done before but should i be worried? the doctor said to keep using peroxide on it and that if theres not excessive bleeding dont worry it will heal itself. im also still bleeding very minimally from my labia stithces as well, is this also normal? i feel absolutley no pain what soever and am walking fine but cant sit dow in an up right position yet. i have been laying in bed for the past 7 days and taking it easy but still continue to walk eery 15 minutes. i keep hearing different storied about the stiches falling out some say it took weeks others say about a week or so....i have been icing the area alot and the swelling has seemed to go down alot and i also have a hard lump under my stitches on the left side. my real only concern is the bleeding. how did everyone elses bleed for? like i said its not alot just a very tiny bit but it worries me. please if anyone could help me i was greatly appreciate it. thank you

this is the first time I am using this website I don't know how to send private msgs or properly "quote" someone to follow up with them. First of all, I am so sorry to hear what everyone has gone through in this webpage. I know your pain as I have had similar experience. and to this day I am physically and mentally tormented by the mistakes this Surgon made. I am praying for myself and all of you ladies out there to hopefully be better in time.
dear Lisakoo, did you end up going to Dr. Alter for your surgery? if you did do you mind me asking how it went and what was done? because I had a very horrible experience with another doctor almost 4 years ago and I am contemplating going to Dr. Alter for a reconstruction surgery which will involve reconstructing it from the side of my clitoral hood, I am very reluctant of having the clitoral hood touched because of potential pain and sensitivity. sounds like what you had in mind is similar to what I will be going through. I would really be happy if you could share with me wether you ended up going to him and if you are happy with th results.I had horrible experience the first time so I want to make sure I will be avoiding painful surprises this time.
has anyone had their surgery done with Dr. Alter? and if so can you please tell me if you are happy with his work?I hear good things about him but I would like to hear this from someone whos had surgeries with him? I feel as tho he is my only chance.

I had a labiaplasty done 3 months ago. Basically the Dr. amputated my inner labia. I had MRSA develop after the surgery and did not pay much attention. Now, that I am MRSA free and can attend to that particular area of my body it appears that I had a small area that did not heal appropriately. It looks like a skin tag at edge of the perinial area. I have only had intercourse once and it was very painful. I am afraid to try again. Please be careful and make sure the Dr understands your expectations.

I had my labiaplasty exactly 10 days ago and i'm already back in skinny jeans! I think it depends on how much you rest to let it heal, obviously some people have work commitments, I've just taken a week off sixth form and literally lay in bed all day every day with ice on it - I think that's the only real way to speed up recovery! I'm also very pleased with the results and very happy I had the surgery, I had terrible problems with mine and not only has getting it improved my quality of life but sent my confidence right up :-) good luck to anyone getting it!

I had labiaplasty about 16 days ago. I got lucky and my dr. worded it right so i paid very little. kaiser insurance lol. At first i wasnt sure if i would like it or not because i felt like i had been butchered down there. now that the swelling has gone down a lot it looks a little better. I am considering going back and having a little more trimmed off. I am having sex and riding my bike 16 days later so i guess i have healed fast but i definently feel like it has changed my life. I actually have better orgasms now and am more sensitive on my labia. Im lovin it.

I had labiaplasty done two days ago and I had a very good experience! The first day that it was done there was no swelling or bleeding at all.. but the (minor) swelling started the next day. Other than a bit of that, I have had no pain or anything even though I have not been taking the pain killers regularly. The first day I was routinely taking them every 4-6 hours because I was scared that it was going to hurt if I didn't but it turns out I don't even need them! I am still a little swollen and slightly bruised but it is going down fast... If I had the choice to make again, I would do it! But then again, reading all the horror stories online I was a little nervous to go ahead with it. I had the V cut method and in my opinion it is much better than the alternative. Overall, I am happy with my decision since I had enlarged labia since as long as I can remember and jumped at the opportunity to get it "fixed". lol.

I DO NOT trust this person. You do not have sex within 16 days. It's very clear upon Dr's orders....nothing in the vagina for 4-6 weeks..no strenuous exercise..... Please only those who know what they are talking about......

Hi I'm from the UK and am having labiaplasty carried out on the NHS on 17th August this year. After over 30 years of hating my large labia and the way they were affecting my life - difficult sex, pinching, difficulty with hygeine, etc. I finally plucked up the courage to visit my GP to request that something be done. She examined me and agreed to refer me to a gynaecologist but said that she did not think he would do it because it would be too painful!! I waited 7 weeks to see him. When I sat in his consulting room and explained how I felt and that finally, after 30 years, I had plucked up the courage to do something about it he started by giving me a long lecture about how he did not understand where this 'obsession' with having smaller labia came about. I truly thought that he would refuse to do it but when he examined me, his whole attitude changed and I believe he could see that I truly did have a problem and was deserving of his help. He said that the criteria for surgery was that the inner labia should be over 4cm and, though he did not have a ruler, he could see that mine were well in excess of that. In the circumstances he agreed to carry out a trim labiaplasty and I am due to have it on 17 August. I cannot wait!!! I know it will be painful, traumatic, difficult but despite all of this I have ABSOLUTELY NO hesitation in going ahead with the surgery. It is MY body, one that I have struggled greatly with for over 30 years and I am looking forward to the future post surgery. I believe that currently my labia are ugly and cause me much discomfort. I know he cannot guarantee perfection, I am not asking for perfection but any improvement will be well worth waiting for. I will post again following my surgery.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that when I arrived home following my consultation with the gynaecologists I took out a tape measure and, to my horror, discovered that my labia actually measure 7cm!! No wonder he agreed to do it.
I think he has been asked by many patients recently to carry out this surgery and I think it is perfectly possible to have it on the NHS but you have to fall within their criteria of labia > 4cm, have to be suffering both physical discomfort and emotional difficulties. If you do not fall within these criteria then the NHS will not perform the surgery and you will need to pay privately.

Hello all, just thought i'd share my experience to help anyone out considering the procedure. I had labiaplasty about 3 days ago and it was very successful. This was something i had been considering for awhile, as my inner labia bothered me both mentally and physically everyday. Although I was very scared, i continued to have it done. You hear many horror stories of ppl saying they look very mutilated and wish they never had it done. And there are many ppl who say that everyone should love themselves for who they are but unless you have lived with it then you really can't speak about it. I also had heard of many success stories, so i was split down the middle on what to do. Anyways, after reading several posts (even as bad as some of them were) i decided to do it. I went it for a consultation and even the dr. (a gyn not plastic surgeon) said that my labia were quite big. He was even willing to give me a good deal on it. This worried but though, because ppl usually go for the cheapest deal and come out with bad results. But I trusted my doctor, and it was time to do something about it. So I went in and he put the novocaine in (the most painful part) and then i couldn't feel the rest of it. It took about 30-45 minutes as most ppl have said. But immediately when he finished, there was the most intense pain i have ever felt. I remember reading a post once about a woman saying she wished she had the pain meds directly after the procedure and i wished i listened to her. She was VERY right. So i waited in pain as my mom ran the the store to get the meds. This was the point when i was saying why did i do this procedure..i felt like i was dying and it hurt so bad. But eventually my mom got the meds and I felt much better. No more pain after that actually. So basically, if you are willing to be in a lot of pain for a little then it's worth it. Except everyone is different and that is the hard part with this. It's a very risky thing but in the end I am so so so happy i did this. I have gained so much more confidence already and it hasn't even healed completely. The main problem was the swelling but ice definitely helped that. Also make sure you take baths (i used epsom salt) which keep it clean. Everyday the swelling gets lower and i know it will look fine once healed. So overall, i do recommend this to others who deal with the same problem I did. It was something that i thought about constantly and made me feel like an alien. I believe that if a woman really wants to get this done, she will, and that is her decision. It just gets me angry of the ppl that say it is the dumbest procedure and that everyone should love themselves and not let others judge you. Most ppl that say that haven't gone a day with large labia and yes it's true that you should love yourself but this procedure helped me achieve that. So yes it's a very controversial procedure, but only a woman suffering from their large labia can decide if it is right for them. Hope this helped! Good luck to all! :-D

hi there are so many scary stories to read on the subject thought id let u know how mine went.
took me 20 years to finally get this sorted, fed up with looking like this, let alone the discomfort of clothes etc so went on the nhs. from seeing the gp to op was 12 weeks!
i chose the surgeon - female - which personnaly i feel is most important - not a plastic surgeon, a gynaecologist, highly recommend.
op took over half an hour, but she also removed an ulcer from my episiotomy scar (where they cut u to have a baby!!) SO NOT only did i have the labiplasty stitches to contend wiv, but the old scar re-stitched ouuuuuuch
anyway, hand on heart i can honestly say, which really shocked me that i had the most minimal of pain, only needed 1 pain killer when i got home! HAD a lot of blood loss the 1st night, ended up a&e as was so worried, but it seems the loss was from the old scar, not the labiaplasty, so whatever the gynae doc did at hosp did the trick and i was fine thereafter.
8 days post op im still bleeding, which is annogying . im fine walking and standing, sitting is a bit sore, spending my days laying down, bored bored bored. but been told will take about 10 days to be able to sit ok once stitches disolve. no idea wot i look like now as got no intention of looking so early after the op as dont want to scare myself!
anyway any questions please ask - send me a private message if you want. this site has been an amazing help for me and the girls ive spoken to have been a god send xx
