I got my appendix out when I was 11 and now I'm 14 I'm about 15 pounds bigger and this definetly shows what do to do?
My daughter had appendix surgery when she was 15 and now she is 22. She was very skinny before the surgery and she began to put on weight afterwards to the point where she is now 20 -30 pounds overweight and she can't get the extra pounds off. Is it possible that the lymph nodes in the adominal area were ruptured or injured during surgery? The reason I am asking is that I have lymphedema in my right leg which occurred after me falling down a flight of stairs.

I made the previous post 5 months or so after my appendectomy. Now it's been almost 2 years.
My total weight gain now is 55 lbs (and counting).
My doctor agreed that the appendectomy was likely the cause of the weight gain, but his only suggestion was "eat more fruit and veg" similar to what someone else posted here. My diet is so much healthier than it was before the appendectomy and I'm still hiking and exercising, but my weight just increases no matter what.
I was 29 when I got my appendix out, I'm almost 32 now and feeling miserable. I never had any reason to worry about my weight before and now it's this huge problem that I can't seem to shake.

I have the same problem. Had my appendix removed 5 months ago and I'm gaining weight steadily even though I have constantly practiced my Yoga. Now have started going to the gym since last month; but no improvement ever since...
I am CONVINCED that my appendectomy has caused me to gain 20 lbs over the past 6 months. Before the surgery, I had maintained a weight of around 135 lbs for over 8 years. My lifestyle has only changed for the better after surgery and I am now at 155 lbs! I have been taking strenuous kickboxing classes 3x/week for 2 months now and my weight keeps going up, up, up! Fortunately I am quite tall so it took me a while to even realize I had gained any weight, but I am SHOCKED to say the least. I would love to know what is going on.
Yes, I am a 22 year old female and Its been a little over a week since my surgery and I have lost about 15 pounds between the week before surgery (when my pain started) till now almost 2 weeks later after surgery.
I can relate to everything you've stated and I apologize because I have no new light to shed on this except to say I share your experience. I've even jusice cleansed a couple of times post appendectomy and I'm gaining weight and my lower abdomen is extended and my pants don't fit. My plan is to swim. Swim and swim some more. If that helps, I'll report in. warm regards, Dennis
Exactly how I feel. 54 years old and 10 pounds gained that won't come off! Belly is huge. What caused this weight gain?
Same here, 36, always considered myself athletic. 5'6" was 148lb, pre surgery. Now, 2ys later, can't drop under 160. Same diet, same exercise regiment. It's terrible. I agree with previous posts, we obviously needed that small organ we were born with.
The doctor who answered here completely ignored the very specific factual accounts of the people posting. These people are carefully exercising and dieting over many months; many were for and thin before appendectomy , and months to a year later are still gaining weight. New research needs to be done on the mysterious role of the appendix in metabolism. I am a clinician and have the exact same experience.....eating even healthier and exercising MORE..... Weighed 110 to 115 for 10 years; now have gained almost 20 pounds in 6 months.
Try a probiotic, checking the web this morning it explains about bacteria in your body which may be the missing piece. Also with Ur appendix removed puts us at a higher risk for Crohns disease if the good bacteria isn't replaced .
Seemingly the only treatment is the probiotics+ candida diet.
Give a try.
Good luck.
I definitely think it's the IV fluids. Give it a few days, drink loads of water and eat a high fiber diet to get your bowels going. Don't lose faith, your results sound just like mine. It will get back to normal
I feel your pain. I've never had a tummy problem until after I had to have the dreaded surgery ASAP told it was ready to burst. I'm miserable now.
Hope this happens to me. I'm a 37 yr old women had mine out 3 days ago I'm 61kg. And I'm worried after reading these reviews if I will gain weight
