Hi, ever since I got my appendectomy I started to gain weight and I have difficulties because diets seem not work, what is going on?, thanks
Maryte Eidrigevicius
I am 57, woman, post menopause, by 7 years. Been the same weight, nothing is different, Except 4 months ago I had my appendix out. I am gaining weight rather rapidly. I do not gain weight like this ever. I have racked my brain, trying to figure it out. I just thought the only thing different is my appendectomy. I'm not eating more, I'm not exercising less. it was not a preconceived notion. then I did a search online, and low and behold, others are saying the same thing. So the little dangly thing, I believe actually serves a purpose. I wonder what it does.
Just an added note, My weight gain has all been in my belly.

I had my appendix out and was ten pounds heavier. They pump you with antibiotics , fluids and gas before surgery so the weight gain is normal and temporary.
People forget that their digestive systems need a little break after surgery. Drink a lot of water, try very plain foods and eat smaller portions and very slowly.
Soups, teas and dry toast helped me. I made a vegetable smoothie , but added more water and drank it very slowly.
Light walking around the house also helped. Omit the high fat, sugar or super spicy foods for at least the first two weeks.
My friend got his appendix removed when he was like 8 or 9 an he didn't gain any weight at all he was a a Lil chubby when he was younger but once he got it removed he got skinney an he can't gain any weight or get fat an he eats a lot but still nothing I think its different for everyone like if u are chubby an u get it removed u get skinny an if u are skinny then u will get chubby but ion know it could be totally different hope this helped
Yes! I am a 21 year old female and I have lost 10 pounds since my surgery, 3 weeks ago
You're still in the early stage. Give it a few months
I am having the same issue. I have been the same weight for about 30 years. I had my appendix out a year ago, it burst. At first, I did lose about 10 pounds. But, after about 3 months I started gaining weight. I have tried exercise, over the counter diet pills, and changing my diet. Nothing works. I do not eat much and I am active.
I got my appendix out a little over a year ago at the age of 33. I am a 5'1" female who could always eat whatever I want and never gain weight. In fact, I always had trouble maintaining a healthy weight if anything and I fluctuated in weight between 85-95 lbs since high school. I had never even hit 100 lbs before my appendectomy. Oh and did I mention I never worked out! I had an open appendectomy and had a little difficulty waking up after surgery so I spent 3 days in the hospital and took 6+ weeks to recover. I too had the pregnant looking belly that jiggled but I assumed that was from the swelling. And that did subside a bit however my stomach and weight has never been the same. I gained 30 lbs within a few months after surgery - my upper arms, upper thighs and stomach showed the weight gain the most. My wedding rings and watch that I had been wearing comfortably for years got pretty tight. I seemed to hit a ceiling at 30 lbs up and basically maintained that for the next 9 or so months. A year later I decided I had to do something and joined a gym. I began to watch my diet more - water instead of soda, no processed frozen meals, less carbs etc. I am going to the gym 4-5 days a week and after 4 months I have lost like 2 pounds! Now that might be bc I am gaining muscle and I do notice slimming in my thighs and stomach, not my arms yet. But I would think with so much effort I would see more results. Now...the research I did showed that many other women in my age group have had the same experience. I have also found that there is some research that shows that the appendix IS in fact useful in that it store good bacteria that may help metabolism and prevent weight gain. Bad bacteria in your gut can also cause cravings for unhealthy foods so without the appendix and healthy bacteria it is like a double whammy on your weight. I have read that fermented foods (Greek yogurt, kimchi, matcha, kombucha....) are supposed to help replace the good bacteria that our bodies no longer store naturally. I went to the health store and bought every kind of fermented food and drink and tried them all so I could find a few that I did not mind. It is supposed to be good to take in several different kinds of fermented foods bc they all have different good bacteria. I have not exactly been consistent with this yet to really testify that this helps but I am going to try for the next month to give a good go and see if this makes a difference. There are drinks, foods, supplements, powders etc. etc. so it is kind of overwhelming. I have a list of the fermented foods somewhere but probably just as easy to google it. I do remember "Good Belly" which makes a little shot to drink that is not too bad tasting and also Lifeway Kefir Probiotics. My husband is a health nut and he says taking a spoon of apple cider vinegar before meals, in particular with carbs, helps to kick start the metabolism. Doing this before every meal becomes quite nauseating so I just ordered it in capsule form. I really hope something starts to make a difference bc I am busting my butt at the gym and aside from yoga classes it is not my favorite thing to do! I am wondering if a holistic/naturalist doctor would be a good next stop bc regular doctors pay this issue no mind. Perhaps they could put together a reasonable plan to follow on a daily basis.
What my doctor tolled me was that i needed a pro biotic. Ur appendix supplies ur bowel movements with emsims those emsims help regulate and detox the body. With no appendix ur body has a harder time producing emsims. Just exorcise. Eat right and take a pro biotic once a day and u will start lossing weight. It worked for me and my doctor was right.
I'm 16 had my appendix removed about 2 months ago have a fat stomach mostly to my lower stomach it doesn't seem to go am fairly active exercise everyday bike treadmill badminton an table tennis still nothing maybe if you exercise your abdominals more it'll work but yeah even have had green teas lemon water weight loss supplements and still there
I have same problem its been 11months for me
Did anybody try this pro biotic? anyone consult with doctor?
Soooo... the latest research is saying that the appendix is not a useless appendage that evolution forgot, but that it is where the body stores probiotic organisms (bacteria) to help with the digestive process. Without these beneficial bacteria, your body can't digest some of the food you eat. Undigested food is stored as fat, since your body doesn't know what else to do with it. (WARNING: this next bit is sick and wrong, so if you're squeamish, you may not want to read it) To test the theory of the effect of probiotics on weight, doctors have been analyzing fecal matter (POOP) from those of healthy weight compared to obese persons. The bacterial composition was very different in those two groups. So to further test the theory, in a double blind study, they TRANSPLANTED (ugh!) fecal matter (with it's beneficial bacteria) from a skinny person to an obese person. Those obese persons having the transplant lost TWICE as much weight as those not receiving the transplant!! I'm not really sure I'm willing to have somebody else's poop transplanted into my colon, but I can guarantee I'm going to try taking a probiotic supplement for a couple of months to see if it makes a difference. I had my appendectomy in Sept and had gained 8 lbs before I was released from the doctor's care. All total, I have gained 20 - 25 lbs in the 4 months since the surgery. I'll try anything (except a poop transplant!)
Me too. My appendix ruptured and i had surgery a week ago,the infection spread so they had to remove part of my colon
