Hello. I am 23 year old healthy female and I would like to find some informations about one thing that’s interesting me for a long time.
About two months ago my son was born and he was perfectly healthy.
But I have spotted some pink patches on the baby's upper eyelids and upper lip.
At first this got me worried but doctor told me that this is quite common condition and that is called macular stains. So, I have stopped thinking about it.
After a month or two, a good friend of mine also have seen this and told me that this is called stork bites or angel’s kisses and that this could be very serious. Please tell me the difference about these terms?
Well, I can say that your friend doesn’t have a clue about these birthmarks. Because if he knew better he would told you that macular stains, angel’s kisses and stork bites are basically the same thing and the only difference is in theirs location!
“Macular stains”, or salmon patches, are very thin, light pink, flat patches of discoloration and they can be found on baby’s hairline on the back, upper eyelid and upper lip. When they appear between baby’s eyes they are called “angel’s kisses” and “stork bites” when they appear on the neck.
These birthmarks are caused by abnormal development of blood vessels and they fade without treatment within the first year of life.
